Scotland will become the first country in the world to introduce minimum unit pricing for alcohol.

Supreme Court justices gave their backing to the controversial measure in what ministers in Edinburgh hailed as an “historic and far-reaching judgment”.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Absolutely delighted that minimum pricing has been upheld by the Supreme Court.

“This has been a long road - and no doubt the policy will continue to have its critics - but it is a bold and necessary move to improve public health.”

I don't think it will affect pubs in the long-term, if anything it MIGHT be beneficial for us, considering the likes of Asda, Tesco et al are directly affecting sales with their cheap deals.

Don't have a proper calculation in front of me, but if the figures they're claiming will be the new minimum pricing, then it won't be far off £10 for a 3L bottle...

Actually, just had a look over some of the figures there.

Not really THAT big a deal in terms of price hike for most things.

I can see Tesco's, Asda's, Morrisons just over the English side of the border doing a roaring trade in booze cruises. :60:

Any chance of the price of a pint going down now then for responsible drinkers?

Aye, that's our cheap booze deals for crimbo * :56::56::56:

From what I can see, it'll be more or less the same for pubs - no better no worse, imo.

Only ones it will affect is the likes of Asda etc with their cheaper than cheap deals, and the poor ol' jakies that tan their pennies on cheap cider and whisky.

    No chance.

The price of alcohol (retailers) is still, on average, going up.
