Well I think he is decent. I dont watch VVV that much. But the strange thing is, I've red some opinions from VVV supporters about this possible move and most of them are pretty keen to get rid of him and think Celtic is a too big club for him.

Yet the English media call him 'the new John Terry'.

An excellent young defender with a lot of potential. He is the best young defender in Japan right now imo and while that's not a huge boast due to their history of relatively poor centre halfs it is still something considering the rising quality of the national team as a whole.

The hardest thing for young asian players coming to Europe tends to be the adjustment but having played in the Eredivesie for two seasons already that wouldn't be a problem. I would absolutely love this to be true.

    Broony!
    Cheap & cheerful translation;

Celtic, the reigning champion of Scotland, has reported VVV Venlo for Maya Yoshida. This confirms CEO Hans Soentjens. "Celtic has the interest in Yoshida made known to us, but no bid," said sports director of the Tourist Office in Telegraaf.De The 23-year-old Yoshida made at the recent Olympic Games in London impressed. "Maya was already in the interest of Aston Villa, but eventually the transfer of Ron Vlaar anyway", said chairman Hai Berden earlier. He was after the match against Spain by British media even compared John Terry.
Yoshida has a one-year contract and tourist will have to sell him, so this summer, to do anything to him to deserve. Chievo and Sampdoria will Yoshida coming Saturday in the home match against ADO Den Haag go see. According to the Friday edition of the Daily Mirror has Southampton three million euros for the Japanese, who also reportedly interest from Newcastle United, Everton, Fulham Stoke City and enjoy. Chances are that he has this summer, the cool leaves.

Scored a cracker of a scissor kick volley in a domestic match for VVV (as reported on stv news tonight) however no idea re his defensive capabilities and certainly not going to compare him to Du Wei (as no doubt the media will do)

If he can do a job AND keep the Asian/Eastern market open then go for it!!!

Still need a beast of a CB though IMO...

    Hail Hail

    Differing opinions for sure!!!

According to a report (in the always to be trusted source that is the mirror)

‎'Celtic will sign Japanese star Maya Yoshida this week to strengthen their Champions League campaign.

Defender Yoshida plays for VVV Venlo and last night the Dutch club’s president Hans Soentjes said: “Celtic have officially contacted us to make their serious interest known. We are now waiting for their offer.

Maya Yoshida was almost sold to Aston Villa earlier this summer. But in the end they opted for Feyenoord’s Ron Vlaar.
    ...
Yoshida makes a habit of scoring with spectacular overhead kicks.'

I certainly think this is more realistic - £2m, Asian/Eastern player, young, resale value...

Thing is, if he's no better than what we already have then no thanks!!!

We do NOT need to be signing another Kelvin Wilson...

Having said that the vast majority of Lennys signings have been bang on, so in him I trust and continue to do so - but we do need to get the CB (and ST) signings bang on!!!

    Let the people sing,
There definitely is a marketing ploy lurking in the background surrounding this transfer but hopefully he turns out a good player too, if he comes.

In other news, how funny does 'Schotland' sound when you say it aloud!
