RED BULL LEIPZIG boss Ralph Hasenhuttl has insisted he won’t allow Celtic target Marvin Compper to leave in January because of the club’s injury problems.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is interested in shoring up his defence with the 32-year-old Germany international.

Leipzig had previously been receptive to allowing Compper to leave in the January transfer window because of a lack of game time.

But they have been struggling recently with injuries and Red Bull were forced to use Compper for 45 minutes in their weekend draw with Mainz.

And Hasenhuttl has now told Compper he will have to wait until the summer to leave the club he’s been at for three years.

He said: “I don’t want to get rid of any player in January.

“It’s a squad game and we need them all, especially as we have had a lot of injuries recently.

“Also, Marvin has never come to me and said he’s unhappy or put in a transfer request.

“So he will be here until the summer at least.”

Celtic are desperately looking for defensive reinforcements and saw the experienced Compper as an ideal solution, even though he would have been ineligible for the Europa League tie with Zenit St Petersburg.

But they may now have to look elsewhere for new imports.

Compper at CP today. Deal expected to be done, although medical won't happen until post Xmas for some reason. Things could change , but this looks like a done deal.

Could be a ringer, remember Rid Bull's ties with the mighty gers, Wir Sind Das Volk as they say in Germany.

 

I much preferred the look of Tosic, but if he’s only a squad player then why not but we need more.

 

Would've preferred someone not pushing 33. Never seen this guy but the way we play requires pace in the defensive positions, and not sure a 33 year old is the answer..

I'm all for experience in defence but you can be 27 and be packed with a wealth of experience..

I do think we should be looking at a left sided centre half/left back though. Someone who can fill in for KT at time's also would be a sensible signing..
