Not sure if playing in the CL cup ties you for the EL.

will be as they dropped into same comp as us, if they had stayed in CL he would have been ok, from my reading of it.

I’ve seen him play for Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig a few times. He’s a decent player, but if he’s going to be 33 before he plays in European competition for us, I’d rather bring in someone else.

CELTIC are set to swoop for RB Leipzig stopper Marvin Compper.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to strengthen his squad in January, with the acquisition of a dominant centre-half his top priority.

German cap Compper, 32, has struggled for regular football in the Bundesliga this season.

Celts have already started the ball rolling on a deal that could see him sign in next month’s transfer window.

Compper, however, would NOT be eligible to play against Zenit St Petersburg in the Europa League.

With Leipzig also participating in the same Euro competition Uefa’s rules wouldn’t allow it.

He played for Leipzig in their 2-1 home Champions League loss to Besiktas last week.

Compper also made just his second league appearance of the season as a sub in the 2-2 draw with Mainz last weekend.

In his only Bundesliga start this campaign, Compper was hooked at half-time in the shock 1-0 defeat to Augsburg last September.

Compper not being able to play in Europe is unlikely to put Rodgers off signing the experienced defender, who he believes would bolster his squad.

Celts have also been linked with Astana frontman, Patrick Twumasi, 23, but it’s understood doing a deal for the Ghanaian forward is less likely.

Well i guess he's a good option for strengthening for next years campaign, but i'll be very disappointed if we dont have a new CB in for the Zenit game.

32 years old, and not eligble for the RO32? We can find better, younger, and more appropriate CB's who can* play against Zenit.

Does seem a bit pointless if he can't play in the round of 32.

Better? Younger? Eligible for the RO32?

Only one man that fits that criteria.

    Finally..

Have to imagine we are signing 2 CB's, then.

Would be textbook Celtic to strengthen an area we need, then have that player ineligible for the biggest 2 games left in our season, potentially.

If he's only played once in the League and he was hooked at HT when have we watched him?

He can play LB too, if he's brought in to bolster then fair enough but I'd like real quality brought in at CB as well.

If true and lets be honest the papers dont know * all whats coming in and out of celtic to the guys are here and in a medical! I still think we will sign 2no CB in January with Erik definetly leaving, we should be spending a decent amount in January imo we should be spending both the summer and Jan budget next month as we have next to no time to bed players in for europe, also throw into the mix we will in all likeliness lose Armstong and Dembele too in the summer so imperative we get the players in next window also we have FOUR rounds of qualifiying for CL groups also.

Dembele has done nowhere near enough this season for big clubs to come in with silly money
