Makes you wonder what sort of life he might have led had he not been born into a state that discriminated against him based on his religion/ethnicity. There is something incredibly sad about that thought.

Shaking hands with the Queen etc. Not sure how Bobby Sands et al would have viewed that.

Having said that, I appreciate the significance of the symbolism and how important it was for moving forward.

A giant of a man, regardless.

Norman Tebbit was scathing calling him a coward and murderer. That's a bit rich coming from a member of Thatchers cabinet. I suppose his 5 friends lives were more valuable than the 100s of Irish lives lost during her time as prime minister.

No you have no idea at all what "Bobby Sands et al" would think about that.

They might think the same as many ex prisoners do and think it was a step forward , or they may not.

So I'm not sure how you are unable "what to make of" Martin McGuinness by yourself.

    RIP!

Aye just heard the chuntering old buffoon there mate.

Did ye hear the guy Danny after him who was a squaddie in South Armagh and said if he'd being born Irish he'd have being in the IRA! Also, he said he and some of his regiment tried to understand the Nationalist viewpoint too and because of this he felt his tour wet better for it!
