[Cross Platform] Mafia III

I didn't see a thread for this, so I thought I would make one. I wasn't too interested in the game at first, but following the release of a recent trailer, it's now one of my most anticipated games of the year.

I'll start by posting the reveal and story trailers, and further down I've put together a little rundown of most of the known details (as of writing this).

Story:

• The events of the game take place in the city of New Brodeaux, in the year 1968 (New Brodeaux is also apparently going to be featured in the next Red Dead game if a recent leak turns out to be correct)

• Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race (African-American & Caucasian) orphan and veteran of the Vietnam war is the protagonist. Unlike the characters from the previous games, Lincoln is not, nor becomes, a member of the Mafia.

• After returning from Vietnam, Lincoln joins up with the so called 'Black Mob', who are later executed by the local Mafia, with Clay being left for dead.

• The story will focus on Lincoln's war of revenge against the Mafia, and his attempts at establishing his own criminal empire. His desire to find his place in life, or more specifically a family, seems to be a major theme of the game

• Other local gang leaders (shown at the end of the reveal trailer) will join up with Clay throughout the game, as they seek to bring an end to the dominance of the Mafia within New Brodeaux. These include:

  • Vito Scaletta (the protagonist of Mafia 2) and a faction of Italian gangsters
    
    

Gameplay:

• Missions can be tackled in a variety of ways, as explained in Gamespot's preview article:

• In previous installments, the story missions were the sole focus of the game (although 2 did feature some collectibles). However, this time around there are some additional missions scattered throughout the city (raiding rival groups businesses being one such example). It's worth noting though that Hangar 13, the developer, are keen to point out that these aren't just side-missions designed to pad out the game, but rather something that contributes to the story as a whole (as explained in this PC Gamer article):

• The various allied gang leaders also potentially provide some gameplay benefits depending on certain story events according to IGN:

Release Details:

• The game is due to release on the 7th October 2016 for PC, PS4 & Xbox One

• 2K also announced that three editions for the game Standard, Deluxe and Collectors. As of writing this, only the standard edition is available to order in the UK.

• All pre-orders will also receive the 'Family Kick-Back' pack which includes three exclusive vehicles and weapons (if you don't want to pre-order Game usually give away the pre-order stuff if you buy the game in store soon after the release)

 

I liked Mafia II, don't know about the setting and story for this one right enough.

 

Looks great and premise sounded good so preordered.

 

I enjoyed Mafia 2 so will definitely want a shot of this.

I enjoyed 2 so much that I went and bought 1 only to find out it wasn't backwards compatible. Still got it somewhere, gathering dust.

If anyone has an original xbox you can have it for free.

Yep, quite fancy this.

I loved the first game far more than the second, hopefully this will be nearer the 3rd, but liked the series so far.

Defo on the list, probably for Xmas.

 

I loved one and two so I will definitely be buying it.

I'd much rather be in the Mafia though, the storyline seems a bit * to me.

 

A Mafia game where you aren't in the mafia? Meh.

Loved the first game, second was average.

 

Second was class.

Not as good as the TC equivalent

 

I remember playing the second one religiously. Waited in anticipation for years for it. Gameplay and graphics were terrific, setting and custimization top notch. Still, I was left a little dissapointed considering it took a day to beat. Story could've been much, much longer in my opinion. Not much of a gamer anymore tbh, will most likely only be buyin FIFA and Battlefield. Not sure if I'm really into Mafia that much to spend $80 CAD on it.

 

Pre-ordered this a while back and forgot about it. Should be good fun, never played the other games but the gameplay looks good.

Looking forward to playing this.

 

Played it for an hour or so Friday night. Quite boring so far.

 

Story is great, gameplay is solid. Music is fantastic, New Orleans is cool along with the 60s vibe but its pretty dead in terms of side activities. Biggest problem so far for me is the sky box, its * up. Not a major problem but it annoying.
