Brendan Rodgers has put Reading defender Liam Moore at the top of his list of January transfer targets.

And the Celtic boss is ready to test the resolve of his former club with a move for the £5million-rated centre-back, who can also play right-back.

Rodgers admitted central defence is an area he wants to strength when the transfer window opens again in the new year.

And 24-year-old Moore has caught the eye of the Parkhead manager after impressing since joining the Royals from Leicester last summer.

Moore signed a new four-year deal at the Madejski Stadium after flourishing under the guidance of former Holland and Manchester United centre back Jaap Stam.

The former England Under-21 international started out at hometown club Leicester City but had loan spells at Bradford City and Brentford early in his Foxes career.

Rodgers is keen to strengthen the heart of defence after injuries to key players at crucial times this season.

Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have been blighted with fitness problems, while Dedryck Boyata has also been missing at times.

The Hoops boss has been forced to play Nir Bitton as a makeshift central stopper at times and Moore is seen as someone who could strengthen that area.

Exactly you’ll always get late bloomers wasting their talent down there, who’d predicted how good Commons or Griffiths would be when they signed? The championship has actually been very good for us with these types of player. Sinclair was technically a championship player as well.

I actually doubt it. He's pretty decent. A fair price tag in this market

Played against Leeds not long ago, looked a solid defender , definitely a lot of potential there. Good choice!

Bear in mind Scott Sinclair was not an immediate starter for just relegated Aston Villa. I trust Brendan's judgement.

Interesting, but for 5 Million no, we need to spend our money very carefully 5 million is a lot for us so we need to spend it on someone we can be sure will be worth it,

If you don't watch it then you won't know how good some of the players are. Some very good players in that league. Ruben Nueves for example plays for Wolves, and he is absolute quality.

Kelvin Wilson came from Forest and done a good job for us, aswell as the others mentioned above.

Who is the better out there that won't cost as much? Other than younger players with little experience, such as Ajer

Still young, only 24 though 5m does seem alot but that's the market down there. If he comes here and does a good job then we can sell on, for at least money back on him.

See the year Leicester got promoted i thought he was brilliant in the championship. Thought he was going to be the next big thing down south. Then for whatever reason he hardly played in the premier league then got loaned out alot.

5m is absolutely * all in todays market and will never guarantee success. 5m gets you what 2m got you under Lennon. Plenty of players can flop in that price range as we saw many times.

For what its worth if a player is performing well in the championship , 5m is a fair price.

There's literally zero guarantees with any transfer. Be it £500k or £50m.

If Rodgers and Davies rate this guy that's enough for me.

Lets be honest 5million for a 24year old defender performing well in the championship is fairly low in todays market.

seen him a couple of times and the boy looks a very decent player, He's worked under Jaap Stam now for a year, surely this would improve any CB, no? Have a look over on their forum to he's very highly rated and think 5million is an insult to them!
