Just reading a article about lennoxtown and how it was Tommy Burns baby and he was he driving factor behind the development, as it approaches ten years since the great man died I feel it would be fitting to rename it after Tommy!

The Tommy Burns academy... It certainly does have a good ring to it.

K * T was 'nothing special' either until he was given a prolonged opportunity in the first team under Deila.

We'll see moving forward whether or not it's anything special, if you're expecting a team full of KT's though you'll be disappointed. That isn't happening at any Club in Europe though, they don't grow on trees.

If we can keep producing players like Forrest and McGregor then we will be doing very well. I don’t expect to see another KT for a few decades, although you never know

so all it takes is a prolonged spell in the first team to make a special player? If only it was that simple.
I actually dont even agree with the prolonged part either as he was showing himself to be good enough after fenerbahce which was his 2nd or 3rd game. So thats pish.

To suggest also that no academy in Europe regularly produce top players is a joke. Southampton has been brilliant in recent years. Ajax got to the Europa league final with a team full of academy graduates. La masia before it closed. Real, bayern , bilbao and Zagreb. All reguraly produce top players

Aye, that’s what I meant. All it takes is a prolonged period, doesn’t matter about their application or their talent.

Playing first team games is a game changer for those trying to break through. Without that there is no real way of knowing who can and can't make it.

KT got that opportunity and good on him but there are plenty of missed opportinities for others too. He's got plenty of talent but that has been doubled by the confidence he has gained by testing himself at a higher level. The more opportunities we give our youth players to do the same the more will do the same. Nothing makes a first team footballer like playing first team football.

Not one of the former Celtic youths (who didn't make it here) has went on to prove that they were worthy of a place at a CL club.

A lot went on to forge decent careers but none at the level Celtic required at any time.

If you are good enough then Brendan will afford them every opportunity to make it.

KT pretty much proved himself immediately from getting a run. Most youths you gradually bring into the team. For me KT had an instant impact so he was deserving of his first place team imo.
Loads of players have been given similar opportunities to KT. Coming in when the first choice is out. Like Ralston against PSG. Not many/any took it the way KT did. So it showed it takes a lot more than just a run in the team.

Kind of a sidepoint but in reflection we were producing players of a decent quality under O'neil but they struggled cause we had a fairly solid first team. Wallace, maloney, marshall, cairney, kennedy, mcmanus, mcgeady, miller. whether with us or down south all of these players could say they made it, obviously kennedy had his injury problems and miller * it for himself but still.

put those players together and you have the start of a decent side haha, seemed like our youth output dipped after that for a few years but gradually picked up throughout this decade, some of the top academies do produce player of tierneys class as more than one offs so I'm hopefully for the future

About a year or so back we got a petition going to try and re-name it. Shared it around via the forum Twitter page etc but it kind of fell away, I'm sure we managed about 6k signatures though.

Its been mentioned for a while.

Mikey Johnson looked a real live-wire when he came on. Quick feet, direct, took on his man a few times. Hopefully get to see more of him as the season goes on.
