. There is an amount of anticipation and to be fair the reception he’s got from the players, the supporters, the club, that makes me very proud. It’ll do his confidence the world of good

: "Words can’t describe how good a feeling that was when the ball hit the back of the net. I’m absolutely delighted.

LG: "So much hard work has been done, not just by me, but by the backroom staff and all connected with myself to get back on the pitch. I can’t score goals without my teammates, my biggest thanks goes to them.

LG: "Hopefully that‘s the start of more goals. My kids were watching me and I had friends in the stands too. I was close to crying.

LG: "It’s up there with the England moments if I’m honest. Big thank you to my teammates and everyone connected with the club, if it wasn't for them then I wouldn’t be back on the pitch."

He sounds likes he matured 10 years in the last 6 months at times. * of a thing to go through, but it can stand people in good stead for the rest of their career and beyond.

LEIGH Griffiths said his goal against Nomme Kalju was up there with the best in his career as the Hoops striker scored his first competitive goal since returning to football following a time out of the game.

Griffiths scored Celtic’s third goal with a stunning free-kick just before half-time in a game which saw Neil Lennon’s side assert their dominance with a 5-0 win against the Estonian champions in the first leg of Celtic’s UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie.

The 28-year-old striker only made his return to competitive action last week when he came on as a second half substitute against FK Sarajevo in Glasgow.

Griffiths recently discussed his long road back to playing football after seven months away from competitive action, and he realised the culmination of his hard work with a wonderful goal in his first start since early December 2018.

With the half-time whistle approaching, Celtic were awarded a free-kick 25-yards from goal. Griffiths stepped forward and curled the ball over the wall and into the top corner. Paradise erupted in celebration.

“You can tell by my reaction how much I enjoyed it,” he said. “Words can’t describe how good a feeling that was when the ball hit the back of the net. I had a great feeling as soon as it left my foot and got over the wall. Scott Bain said that from his view behind me, he just knew it was in. I’m absolutely delighted.

“It was emotional. My last goal for Celtic was a free-kick away to Hamilton, sot was nice to get another one. I would have taken a one-yard tap in, if I’m honest. It’s nice to be up and running and I was delighted to get back on the scoresheet.”

Griffiths is renowned for his set-piece ability and has scored countless goals with his left foot over the years, but he admitted tonight’s goal was perhaps his most cherished, given all the hard work which got him to this point.

“It’s up there with the England goals, if I’m honest, right at the very top," he said. "I tried a free-kick earlier in the game and it didn’t quite come off, but Broony almost scored from the rebound. Big Jozo said to me just before I hit it, as soon as I get it over the wall, it’s going in. Sure enough after it goes in, I celebrated with him and he said ‘I told you’.

“So much hard work’s been put in, not just by me but the backroom staff and everybody connected with me who have worked so hard to get me back on the pitch.

I can’t score goals without my team-mates so the biggest thank you goes to them. Hopefully that’s just the start. That’s me up and running now in the season and, hopefully, there’s more to come.”

Felt good watching it, can’t imagine how he felt.

He’d have dreamt of that very moment for months at his lowest ebb.

After the abuse he has taken from the huns regarding his problems how amazing would it be for him to absolutely smash them up this season

Was trying flicks and tricks all night trying to link with Edouard but wasn't quite there between them. That will come..

    Definitely looked sharp..

Strangely, I thought he would score the first freekick and was sure he would * the second because of the first :giggle1:
