I would have Weah on the bench ahead of him for the final, unless Griffiths gains match fitness before then, or, * forbid, Édouard or Weah is unavailable for selection.

It would be a fairytale ending if he were to return after his illness, and score the winning goal in the cup final against Hearts, but I agree with Valhalla: he should be eased back into playing, as he would be after a physical injury.

I’m not saying you haven’t mate, he’s not saying through him in, he’s saying he’d need to play in games before that. Imagine taking this time out, getting yourself fully fit, looking at the games like Killie, Aberdeen, the Huns or Hearts before the final, double sessions, got yourself fit and mentally ready....

And we say nah, you’re too fragile to cope with that. That’s a kick in the balls that could spiral into something worse. If he’s fit and feels ready, then there’s zero point not easing him back into games.

I doubt if he was left out he would be told he is too fragile, really couldn’t see that conversation taking place.

Come the time, he will probably be left out, if he is back training, because he is not match fit.

Would be great to bring him on of course. I’d prefer his first appearance back to be at CP though in front of 59,000 of us.

I agree with all you have said here. I just posted what I've heard/been told. For me to even make the bench, for the cup final, he needs to have played a few games minimum anyway. So that would mean he needs to be pushing for a place in the squad for the next Aberdeen game, at the latest imo, with a view to starting the next game which would be the orcs away before we play hearts in the final league game prior to the final.

I’m not saying he’d get told that but think that’s more the message that it would send. That’s just my experience dealing with people that are dealing with mental problems, offer courage and support and most of all don’t take take the power of their own choice away from them when they’re improving.

It’s something that can be so easily shattered. I appreciate everybody is different when it comes down to it though. I just don’t think holding him back when he’s fit and ready and feels ready would be the right way to go.

I know it's kinda not my business and I would never ask for details but do we know what was the core reason for him to be given free time? Last thing I've heard couple of months back was to do with gambling?

Good to have a goal to work to and can't think of a better one than a Cup Final. Hopefully see him in a development squad game soon.

He didn’t need to go see a specialist. Should have just joined here & got the answers off the experts.
Probably would have been able to carry on playing, or not, depending on who answered.

Neil Lennon has told Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths that aiming for Scotland’s European Championship qualifying squads for the June games against Cyprus and Belgium is a realistic ambition.

Griffiths has adhered to a structured individual training programme over the last month and is now up to twice daily sessions in the gym. It is expected that a full return to first-team training will come this week.

The 28-year-old has not played since December 8 after Celtic allowed him to take time out in order to seek professional help for personal issues.

In the aftermath of Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final win over Aberdeen last weekend Lennon said it was possible for Griffiths to push himself towards a Cup final place and the likelihood is that he would need to have had some game time for the Parkhead side in order to be in contention for a Scotland shirt.

In Griffiths’ favour is the lack of genuine options for Scotland in the forward role; Steven Naismith has been out since the end of February with a knee injury, there are question marks over Steven Fletcher’s
availability and Oli McBurnie has failed to set the heather alight in that role.

Lennon is now looking for the striker to take some responsibility for getting himself into optimum shape as he targets the international games.

He is at his peak and he still has plenty to offer,” said Lennon. “That is down to him. It looks like he wants it so it is up to him to do the hard yards now.

“He is getting there. I think he’ll be fit for the qualifiers. It would do him good. It would keep him ticking over. He has a bit of work still to do. It would be nice for Scotland and it would be nice for me to have a quality striker added to the one I’ve got. He won’t be a million miles away.

“He is in training twice a day on his own at the minute. He still has to be integrated into the group so he is still a week or two away from that. It is a slow, meticulous routine of conditioning so he doesn’t break down again.”

I think the first time we will see the thumb back playing is in pre season friendlies.....if he is not even training with the squad yet there is no way he is ready in time for anything this season.....but i could be wrong....those tea cakes have magical powers.
No matter when,it will be great to have our goal machine back and playing for a manager who likes him.....

Can't wait to see Griff back in the Hoops, sounds like he's really focused cause it must be tough training twice a day on his own.
