Especially when it’s something as serious as his mental health.

Neil Lennon has given Leigh Griffiths a massive boost by telling him he has a massive part to play in the post-Brendan Rodgers era.

Interim boss Lennon wants Griffiths, who has been given leave of absence from Celtic as he deals with personal problems, back as soon as possible.

Griffiths has not featured for Celtic since early December and has yet to resume training as he battles personal demons away from football.

Lennon has already spoken to the 28-year-old despite being back at Parkhead less than a week and told the front man he signed in January 2014 he still has a major role to play at the club.

Griffiths dropped a major hint about a return on social media last week when he posted pics of himself and Lenny along with images of an egg timer.

Record Sport understands there is still work to be done to get him back and Lennon insisted the 100-goal hitman won’t be rushed.

But the manager admitted he would love to have the striker on board for the run-in.

Lennon said: “The sooner we get Leigh back the better.

“Obviously we are keeping tabs on that as well and want to get him back on the training ground as soon as possible.”

Lennon admitted the club will have to be patient, however, as a Griffiths comeback is not imminent.

Furthermore, the manager could not say for sure whether he will get him on the pitch before the summer.

He said: “Is he close? Not at the minute, no.

“I don’t know if this season is feasible. We will have to gauge that.”

I couldn't believe people on here getting excited about LG being back for the run in :56:

He's been out for months and his fitness levels will be way behind.

Next year I hope to see him back in the hoops.

Why wouldn't we be excited that a proven goalscorer is returning to be in contention?

Because he'll be nowhere near the team this year.

    Next year...granted.

Time will tell I guess. I'm delighted for him first and foremost that he is getting better but it'll be brilliant to see him back on the pitch at some point.

Hopefully he is in a better place and can start training shortly, I think we need a number 9 and would love to see the wee man back on top form. Does anyone have any info on his return ?

Even if he made some sort of appearance in the final game I would be happy. We are a Celtic family through and through!

Neil Lennon is optimistic about Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths returning to action before the end of the season.

And he revealed it could be a only a matter of weeks before the No.9 is able to play again.

Griffiths has missed most of the season after taking time out from football to work through personal issues.

Celtic take on Dundee on Sunday at Dens Park and while the match has come too soon, there’s every chance he may play in the run-in.

Lennon said: “I met him on Monday. I’m optimistic about seeing him back before the end of the season.

“He looked OK and in reasonable condition. He’s got a bit of work to do to catch up with the rest.

That’s what we’re hoping will happen over the coming weeks. I don’t want to talk about private things but he’s obviously itching to get back.

It’ll take a bit of time but hopefully we’ll see him before the end of the season.

“If you can get him fit and firing you’ve got a top-quality centre-forward.

“It’s down to him now. Part of his recovery is that he does it step-by-step but he’s doing it, so hopefully we can get him back doing what he’s good at.

Would be a great boost to see him back. I didnt like the way Rodgers the Rat treated him one bit. I dont mean about his mental health issue, I mean the lack of appreciation he had for him as a player. He will be returning to play for a manager who will give him all the encouragement he needs to get back on track and start bursting the back of the net again.

Seen somewhere that one of his weans has been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Now I'm not too clued up on the illness but surely learning that wouldn't have helped with his mental state?

Either way, hope his wean(s) are good and hope Leigh has had a right good rest and time to mend properly.

Would be delighted to see the wee man run back out on the pitch at CP sometime soon :yeah:

I'm happy that he appears to be overcoming his demons, so that a return is being discussed. I don't care if it's this season, next season or whenever; I'm just thrilled that Griff is on the road to recovery.
