Hope he gets all the help he needs. Don’t think there’s many better managers around to help him than Rodgers.

Now that the hysteria has died down a bit, safe to say that re-opening this thread is safe enough.

Leigh has come out and confirmed that his problems are not related to drugs or gambling, which thankfully quashed all the * rumours that the press have been circulating.

Everyone here at TalkCeltic Towers wish you all the best in your recovery and hope that it is speedy - because we all want to see you in the Hoops banging goals in against the Huns. Good luck Leigh

BRENDAN Rodgers will seek showdown talks with Leigh Griffiths to ask why the player was at a racetrack when he was supposed to receiving several problems in his personal life

And the Celtic manager will remind his player that he is not on holiday, to use his own word, and that the club continue to pay the striker a big wage while he is out of the team - with no time limit on when he will return to the first-team.

Rodgers, speaking yesterday in Dubai, made it clear he was not impressed with the pictures of his troubled player on a day out with friends at Newcastle last weekend, and spoke of Griffiths needing to keep “a low profile” while working on his well publicised issues.

This really could be the last chance for a footballer who has been well supported by Celtic but who many inside the club believe to have crossed a final line by being seen at all places in a betting environment when, along with challenges to his mental health, Griffiths has an issue with gambling.

Rodgers said: “I was obviously made aware of it but haven’t seen the pictures of it. The club are dealing with it, it’s a private matter.

“Leigh was off on grounds of his health, so the club are supporting him with that and I’ve nothing much more to say on it until I, one, speak to Leigh. And two see something - but that will not be until I get back.

“I just need to see where it is all at because he is not on holiday. I think it’s one where I will take a deep breath and look at it.

“It’s very important he understands why he is off and why he has been given the time off. Why he has to maximise that time in terms of getting better.

That’s about getting specialist help and lying low and focussing on the simple things in your life that will allow you to be better.

“I haven’t spoken to him yet. A designated person at the club is dealing with everything with regards to Leigh and I will pick that up when I get back.”

Rodgers must have lost count of the number of times he’s had to speak about Griffiths after negative publicity.

Time and again he has reprimanded this popular figure with over 100 goals for Celtic in private and public.

But even he has a limit to how much patience he can show to the one player who has constantly given him problems in his two-and-a-half years at Celtic.

Rodgers said: “There is no timescale (on Griffiths’s return). It’s all based around how he is feeling and the situations in his life. Ultimately he is a Celtic player and the club are paying him a lot of money.

“But in these instances you have to support the player. Money doesn’t count for anything if the player isn’t in good health. We need to support him which the club is doing amazingly.

“But there is also a responsibility for Leigh Griffiths. I know its ongoing with the club and I have no timeline with this kind of stuff.

“It’s a bit of responsibility. You take a deep breath, assess where you are at and then take the responsibility. Players who have dealt with any types of issues, it’s admitting that responsibility and knowing where you are at, really.

“It’s the only way you have move forward, really. It is important, if you have these issues, there are ways in which to deal with it.”

Surely a day out with your mates is a positive thing for someone struggling with mental health and depression issues?

Again, the headline implies that BR said something which he never actually did.

I would imagine the problem is with Leigh being at a racecourse. I don't know if he has a gambling problem or not, but when all the rags are running with the story he has, it is a bit stupid to have a day at the races. I doubt anybody would have had a problem if he had gone for a day out fishing or mountain climbing.

Rodgers is right: he should be keeping a low profile and taking responsibility for his mental health, so that he can once again be considered for selection.

Gambling will only have a detrimental effect on his well-being, particularly if he suffers from addiction or depression, or both.

Reckon he went to the races to get seen on purpose, let the media have a * fest over it, then come out with a tweet saying "I don't have gambling problems" to stick 2 fingers up at them. Nobody said he had gambling problems, but media * went with it from day one. Scummy *

Griff has already denied his issues are to do with gambling.

The rags are slabbering all over themselves to make an issue where there isnt one.

But BR is correct. He HAS to take responsibility for his own recovery. Depression takes many forms, and a quiet day out with close friends at the track may have seemed a good idea to griff. Innocious enough.

But the flipside is, according to the rags, hes out on the lash, gambling and boozing and fornicating and killing dead things.

It wont be long before two bit pundits put their 50 cents in either.

Frankly he has to start thinking about the consquences of his actions, no matter how harmless they may seem in the moment.

    As BR says, responsibility.

What’s the point of posting something from that rag, that isn’t clear?

To clear up what people are referring to when saying he was holding pints, it's clearly this photo being refereed to, to me it's not clear if its him or someone behind to the side, might be clear for others though.

A pal in my work was off with mental stuff for 6 month, I saw he was away to France(while off on the sick) and I thought "fck me he's ripping it". In actual fact our HR encourages holidays and days out etc. when in a poor mental state. So it is cool he has done this but should maybe just try and do less things that would be seen in papers or give any sort of ammo to papers.
