I don't think Hendry, Morgan or Hayes were Congerton signings. Brendan seen all 3 play against us and I reckon they were his signings.
However the Compper signing looks as if it was his call due to his links to Germany, an all round strange signing. Hopefully he now understands what level of player it takes to make it at Celtic, I think Congerton like alot of people underestimate the spfl

 

Hard to judge his recruitment without knowing what players he was involved in bringing to the club. Who was in charge of the scouting who brought in the likes of carlton cole and kazim richards?! whoever it was must of been on the crack

Fired him in Football Manager a few seasons ago and now my Celtic team are champions league contenders. Get him out.

 

Something that striked me out was the goalkeeping crisis. You would expect the club would have many players on their radar for such an occasion. That's what a scouting department is for. Our first choice was Trevor Carson, because we had probably no goalkeepers under observation at that moment. If we had and they judged this guy to be the best, it's even worse.

This, and the failed recruitments of Musonda and Compper, already dont leave a good impression. But a completely fair opinion can only be given after summer.

 

Musonda was 100% Rodgers, ee were after him before Congerton even came into the picture.

 

Compper was definitely Congerton. He said Congerton tried to sign him about 4 years ago.

Which screams laziness to be to be fair

 

4 years is a long negotiation to be fair.

 

That was said about Eddie as well but we look like getting him from psg possibly, there was also a big effort to get paddy permanently in the close season if reports were true.

 

Nah PSG put a fixed fee clause in the contract so we have the option to buy him at the end of the season. It was believed the fee agreed was around 5-6m, musonda and roberts never had an option to buy once the loan is up. We were rumoured to bid for roberts for around 8m but man city weren't interested, that's peanuts to them.

 

Well if the talk of Compper leaving by mutual consent is true then this * should be held accountable, I actually hate this type of set up. Surely the good old days of scouting then the manager has a good look at the player, I know we have had a record turnover still doesn’t mean we have money to * up a wall.

Genuinely don’t know and think it’s too early to say whether he’s good to *.

He’s head of recruitment which, if I’m not mistaken, means all age levels. Also he doesn’t actually have final say, Pedro signs on the dotted and Brendan chooses who he wants in his team. Lee will just recommend players, he’s essentially a chief scout with different job title.

Maybe he’s signed tons of wnderkids for the youth team who we’ll hear about in 5 years. I know we just poached a highly rated guy from Arsenal, and supposedly snapped up Ireland’s best youth prospect from Linfield!

His only real big failure so far I’d say is Compper, but Rodgers has to take the blame for that as he presumably wanted him, talked him up but then never played him. Musonda and Roberts were good loans on paper, just didn’t work out but people were praising the club when they both arrived. Very harsh to blame Congerton for those guys having poor seasons.

Ntcham and Edouard are fantastic signings. Bain, Hendry and Morgan cheap Scots who could go and be very good players, or could be inexpensive failures. Hayes a failure but unlucky with a broken leg and only 1million, not a huge problem.

Benyu and Eboue seemingly talented but at this stage look destined to be the latest in a list of ‘punts’ which happened way before Congerton came and we’ll still take long after he leaves.

For me LC hasn’t been this huge failure but again, who really knows what he does.

He didn't exactly come with a great track record to be fair. Seemed an odd appointment at the time, nothing has happened here that has made me wonder any less about why he's here.
