    a) it depends how much the manager wants to be involved in recruitment.
    b) The manager cannot be spending every day looking for players, he needs to concentrating on coaching and watching videos of how the opponents play so he can base a team around them. Having a head of recruitment to look for value around the world. Sadly Congerton hasn't really done this, but I think the actual position is worth having.

    A) why wouldnt he? Why would he want someone else making decisions which have both a direct impact on his job and the football we play on the pitch? Who would be better a better judge of a player, or has better footballing knowledge than Brendan Rodgers?

    B) Exactly, which is why he can employ his own scouts. The job role of Congerton is unnecessary.

I have seen interviews with managers who have said they prefer to keep their minds on the team infront of them rather than who they could possibly have. We are not the only club to have this system. Also Congerton came in after Rodgers, Rodgers could have asked for more control. If the role was unnecessary then I doubt so many football clubs would have someone dealing with transfers.

The fact we are bringing Izzy back shows Congerton isn't doing his job correctly. The LB for Rosenborg would have been a better signing. Love Izzy but his time here was done when he left - don't believe in going back the way.

Also, the fact we are apparently rejecting 9-12 mil for Boyata with a year left on his deal because we do not have any replacements lined up is another example that he and his scouting network are doing hee haw.

He went from Sporting Director at Sunderland to Head of Recruitment at Celtic.

It didnt work for Rodgers at Liverpool and I dont think its working here.

Who takes the blame for our failure to strengthen the defence? Congerton or Rodgers?

The Boyata situation is a pretty damning indictment of our transfer policy. We’re basically left rejecting an offer that most could only dream of simply because we’re so threadbare at the back, and don’t appear to be anywhere close to strengthening.

I’d like to apply for the post when he leaves.

I watch Match of the Day, occasionally, and Sportscene; I have some FIFA 18 career mode experience; and I regularly attend Celtic games. I am open to learning how to play Football Manager.

Given Sunderlands recent track record, id be interested to see what they felt qualified him for the job.

Congerton’s role is absolutely necessarry, he’s the one that shapes how we scout and the full scouting team. The technology we use to scout, the youth teams, grassroots football...

He isn’t here to overrule Rodgers but to supplement him. You need a good relationship with them, like John Park and Neil Kennon.

Saying in theory you are right. To refer to an earlier point i made, what qualifies Congerton to do that?
