Lee Congerton - Ex Head of Recruitment

Okoflex, Leo Mazis, Pj Crossan are the only players that come to mind when talking about the signings we have made under Lee Congerton as head of recruitment in terms of youth development players. Is this the 'tons' of wonderkids you are talking about? His only big failure is Compper?!

Think you're forgetting De Vries was meant to be brought into challenge Gordon, instead his only noticeable performance was a penalty save against Sunderland in a friendly

Then there is Gamboa, a guy who got thrown in the deep end in the champions league and got torn by Neymar and Coman. In the league he hasn't put a foot wrong when he has played but for some reason Rodgers doesn't warm to him. It seems as though Gamboa was never really in Rodger's plans and Congerton and himself found themselves on different wavelengths when it came to what RB they were looking for.

2 great signings in Ntcham and Edouard
1 good singing in Scott Bain
4 poor ones in De Vries, Compper, Musonda, Hayes
3 undecided: Benyu, Hendry, Morgan

So 3 solid signings and 4 poor ones so far. On the upside he can find good talent when we spent quite a bit of money (something that wasn't guaranteed under parks) but hasn't so far been able to find a hidden gem when it comes to spending on a low budget.

We have had a defence problem since 2013 that still hasn't been fixed, it didn't start last week when Simunovic got sent off . This is what Lee Congerton earns the big bucks for, to scout players (from around the world, not just England!) and fix the problems on a reasonable budget . The talk of us going into a champions league qualifier with Ajer and Hendry in a back 3 should scare the * out of us.

 

We have no idea how much LC is on. I highly doubt it’s super big bucks because Lawwell frankly doesn’t work that way. I think our highest paid player is 30-35k a week. We also don’t know what he does because he clearly doesn’t publicize it, obviously due to not wanting targets to be known to the media. He could have signed loads of great 11-15 year olds we have no idea about.
Or he could have done * all for two years except recommend his old mate Marv.

I specifically said last season. He essentially did nothing last year, not his fault but the point stands. People only want to give Rodgers credit for the good guys and dump all blame on * signings on this Congerton chap.
If we’re praising Rodgers (and ignoring all other staff) for Dembele, Ntcham, Edouard etc we need to be slagging him too for Compper and De Vries et al.

It’s a bit childish tbh. Brendan has been fantastic, a revelation but isn’t the savior all on his own and isn’t beyond criticism.

Plus Roberts was a Deila signing with his Man City contacts so no idea why you used a Brendan face!

 

As head of recruitment he and BR will be judged in all signings.. since he’s been in post at least..

It’s the only way to judge them..

 

Pj Crossan was here well before Congerton arrived..

Gamboa was here well before Congerton arrived..

De Vries played under Rodgers at Swansea..

So even more to the point what 'ton of youth players' has he signed? So because De Vries played under Rodgers means that excuses Congertons part in the transfer?

 

I've never mentioned a ton of youth player's..

We've signed 3 Irish boy's. 1 highly rated from Arsenal. Same from Linfield in a matter of week's..

Also beat United to the signing of Barry Coffey before that..

I'm sure there's been more at other levels..

If you really think an irish kid rejected manchester united because a newspaper article said they were interested in him and we signed him then * help you. You realise how glorified the premier league is over there nowadays? most kids kicking about in man u and liverpool tops

 

Irish commentator mentioned it when he scored against United the other day but let's just forget about that and stick with your theories and facts. Despite 99% of it proven as rubbish
