Sorry to hear of the big lad getting a serious injury . He's had rotten luck with injuries . I hope he has a full and speedy recovery .

 

Hope he's not out for too long, getting worried we'll be seeing Simunovic or, * forbid, Hendry starting soon. Outside of the injury however i still think he's better suited in midfield. He makes some mental runs up the pitch but lacks the awareness Boyata/Benkovic have.

 

Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after sustaining a horror facial injury in Sunday's goalless draw with Livingston.

Contesting a high ball with the home side's skipper Craig Halkett, the Norwegian's face accidentally crashed into the back of his opponent's head.

Parkhead boss Brendan Rodgers confirmed Ajer had broken his eye socket in the 72nd-minute incident but admitted he has no idea how long the 20-year-old centre back will now be out for.



He's struggling, he's broken his eye socket and he's in a lot of pain at the moment,' said Rodgers, whose team returned to the top of the Premiership table despite dropping two points.

'He will need surgery which is a shame for him. He's in a bit of pain. He's in real agony around the area of his cheekbone.

'The medics will look after him and hopefully he can get that repaired as soon as possible.'

Clear in his mind that that no-one was at fault when his player was hurt, Rodgers added: 'There was nothing in it. It was just during that wee bit we had in their box.

'He's just headered down into their guy's head. There was no fault on the part of the other player. It was just unfortunate.'

Ajer, who had returned to the Celtic defence at the expense of Filip Benkovic for yesterday's match at the Tony Macaroni Arena, has already missed a good chunk of this campaign after sustaining a hamstring injury at the end of September

Admitting that the player has not enjoyed much luck lately, Rodgers said: 'No he hasn't, in fairness to the boy. He's a fantastic young player who is a model professional.

'He does absolutely everything that he can to be ready. It was a case of coming in today and it was just a really unfortunate incident.'

 

Unfortunate for Ajer, especially just after coming back from that period out.

If we can see out the next 7 weeks without any more injuries then we can bring in McKenna and really kick on.
