Heard from a Slovenian friend in Holland that this would be quite a good signing for Celtic, he says Ivens is a top tackler, tall, and very reliable... and also decent with penalty taking

Think he is not more than decent. Not bad, not great.

From the sounds of it we should stay away we dont want anymore "decent" defenders we want a "good" or "excellent" Defender

    Don't think so mate !!
Cause the last player to come up here from Brighton, turned out to be a 'Celtic Legend'!!:31:
Still gives me nightmares !! So, maybe we should stay clear of Brighton !!

    No offense mate.

That is surprising. I am sure we can get better, although it would be nice to have another Belgian lad play for Celtic (after Valgaeren). Don't think he even got a cap for Belgium (and at the age of 27 that is not a really good sign).

Aye but would you turn down signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid just cos Thomas Gravesen was relatively *? :icon_mrgreen: Brighton aren't Real Madrid I know but they've got a lot of good players.

ANYWAY. Dunno anything about this guy. I want a real quality defender, not an 'average' or 'that'll do' type though.

Given that Kompany, Lombaerts, van Buyten, Vermaelen, Vertonghen and Alderweireld who all are good CB's are ahead of him I'm sure he's not put down by that

That is right of course and I was thinking the same after I posted that.

Still, I always hear these stories about all those good Belgian players, but I have yet got to see one decent game of our national team.

Strange, I think Belgium have a very good young side, could possibly go onto quarter finals and stages like that in future tournaments but not on the level on countries like Spain or Germany.

    Courtois
    Alderweireld Kompany Vertonghen Vermaelen
    Defour Fellaini Witsel
    Hazard Lukaku Mertens

Also with players like Dembele, De Bruyne and Chadli to come on, that is a very good team, definitely should qualify for the next WC IMO.

Back to Ivens, from the reports I've heard, he sounds like he could be key for us but I've yet to see him play in the flesh so I can't be sure.
