McGinn doesn't have a defensive emphasis. There's a reason Lennon and Stubbs couldn't trust him to play centrally in 2 man midfield.

Going forward McGinn is definitely a central midfielder. He played left under Stubbs, under Lenny he's playing more in the middle. He's got that drive, aggression and fitness to play in a 2 man midfield. At the moment he's more box to box but as he gets older I see him more as a sitter. I like him but would prefer to buy him and send him on loan for a year, unless we could get rid of Bitton, who can play in a 2 but doesn't really do much. Ipswich want John McGinn - we should buy him and give them him on loan, if they took his best pal Henderson I think they would come back better players.

He's not a bad player but is he much better than Henderson?

I'm not sure if he'd get any more game time than Henderson or Scott Allan would, although I'd rather have him in the squad than Allan

The difference between him and Henderson is minimal. Henderson is probably better to be honest.

McGinn's very different to Henderson. I think he'd be a good investment.

By no means a bad player, any better than what we have though, I'm not so sure

In a lot of ways though it sums up the whole debate. We have a very good squad just now, we now want/need players to excite and take us up a level. In my opinion, McGinn isn't that guy and the lack of excitement surrounding this thread kind of shows that.

    Like Hayes, for example.

What we know with McGinn is both Rodgers and Davies like him. Which is a helluva lot more than we know/knew about Borini, 'Little Ant', Bojan, Onyekuru etc etc etc...

I would be worried he would stagnate at Celtic if we signed him and I am not fond of buying players of 22-23 to send them out on loan. In saying that, Bitton out and McGinn in would improve the squad.

There's a good reason to be worried if Brendan is saying things like last night, about a signing coming in and taking us forward, for us to then announce John McGinn or Barry Douglas. Until that happens we can only assume that the "two blue chip signings" are still being targeted.

If the board do their usual trick of not pushing the boat out at the right times then not only will they * off a lot of fans but I imagine Rodgers too. Which will be seriously unwise ...

Just Bitton out would improve the squad, it wouldn't matter who came in.

A player i feel we dont need we have Brown Armstrong Bitton Eboue Rogic Henderson for there if any of the above where to move on i would like to see Rodgers working with young Hendry i think his name is heard alot of good things about the boy or even Ajer and trying to let them develop in and around the first team Mcginn is a good player but is he better than what we have or could he realistically be the man in midfield im not sure

I agree. Bitton is stagnating here now, a move would be good for him. Same applies to GMS.
Hayes and McGinn in to replace those two is a no brainer for me.

Lennon saying £4m is the start price for him! Ffs a guy who has played for St Mirren and a season or two in the championship! £1.5m tops for the guy! Not Celtic class anyway, no better than McGregor or Henderson and we wouldn't be looking for £4m for them

Good that he's set that price, a Scottish club not selling them short for once. Clubs in England will pay that..
