    I know mate :56:

Underlying point stands though, the guys 'controversy' is pretty much what our fanbase base stereotypically agrees with. If people get raged at for not liking somebody who was in the IDF being in our team, it's beyond hypocritical to object to McClean due to his politics. Infact it's nothing but pandering to bigots within Scotland and the U.K.

Now if you don't think he's good enough? That's a full different story.

I love McClean, hes the most exemplry footballer in Irish footballer in years, genuinely runs through walls for his country, some people here didnt like him at the start (*) but he's worked his way into the hearts of every Irish fan out there.

I'd love to see him pull on the hoops at some stage, he'd thrive off the hatred but is it a hassle he would want in his life? he'd be looking over his shoulder at every second, Lenny was hated but even he didnt wear his beleifs on his sleeve to the degree James does.

I wouldn't want him here. He'd cost a fortune and I don't think he's that good despite his incredibly high workrate. There's better out there we could get for less I think. Don't think the club would go near him anyway for reasons people have pointed out.

My girlfriend, who doesn't like football that much, says very often "you support that team because of their irish origins but they have no irish players". (O'Connell is probably not coming back)

McClean would solve that problem :p Plus he is a decent guy

I think he is in a very similar position to Sinclair, similar age and carrier, in fact, he's had a better one, regular for the national team, played more and for higher stature clubs. I was dead against spending a lot of money in someone who seemed to be an EPL failure but now he is possibly the most important member of our squad. I don't see how can we write out McClean as pish

I'd say he's good enough, but as I said I think there will be better, cheaper options out there.

He's decent but could get better value for money elsewhere as a few others have said.

He's better than decent but his price tag due to the over inflated BPL puts me off

Would love him up here mainly because I feel sorry for him having to put up with those English * all the time, even some West Brom fans and in the past Sunderland fans abused him. At least here he'd know he had the full backing of our support.

Think he'd be a good squad option at the very least and his work rate would help in Europe.

He'd be a good rotation option imo. Get him in for £1.5m and Onyekuru for £3.5m, James Forrest as backup. We really need more wingers as all it takes is 1 injury before GMS is on the bench. Folk acting like he'd cost £8m when the highest he's ever went for was £2m and that was when he was higher rated and younger. We could get him on a good deal here if he forced a transfer.

Of course McClean is controversial, refusing to wear the poppy caused controversy by the definition.

Seems to be this notion that Irish Catholics can't be controversial in any way because that's their views/opinions/way of thinking, in which they have the right to express. But that doesn't mean the gen public have to agree, and that in turn is the initiation of controversy.

For the record, I 100% stand by, and admire, his decision not to wear the poppy. It caused faux outrage up and down the country though, so it's silly to say he's not a controversial figure.

Would like to see him play for us, but reckon he'd be too expensive on wages and fees.

Would be great if we could get him but he'd need to agree a big step down in wages plus not sure how much West Brom would want, probably around the £10M mark.

Think he would be a good addition to the team if we could get him at a reasonable price
