Scottish Premiership champions Celtic could make a surprise move for ex-Derry City winger James McClean.

The Wigan man, who is currently playing up front for Malky Mackay’s side, is a massive Celtic supporter and if the Parkhead men made a move then a switch, even on loan, could happen.

Reports are that Barclays Premier League side Hull City are also believed to be tracking McClean, with the Creggan man’s former boss Steve Bruce looking to strengthen his squad on transfer deadline day.

One City man expected to move to Glasgow before the window shuts tonight is Michael Duffy.

The Northern Ireland U21 international has flown to Scotland to finalise his move after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee yesterday.

I have a feeling some would be prepared to overlook his ability in favour of his reluctance to wear a poppy to be honest.

I'm not sure he's what we require.

He's a very direct winger and could do a job for us but i can't see it since we have GMS in the summer unless Derk will be off. :fear:

    Can't disagree with That :56:

But he has improved a lot since his 2nd season which most people will still judge him on all in all he's a completely direct winger who will be a top domestic player if he could work on his crossing and his right foot he would be a decent player for Europe

Think its a bit of a nothing story to be honest. but he has been arguably Wigans best player this season and if you look at their fans reaction they want him to stay put. He's been playing a centre forward role recently for them and has been doing a decent job

hes playing for wigan in lower English leagues , against teams who have particularly bad tactics, I would be willing to give him a chance but a lack of goals and assists troubles me tbh when you have players like eoin doyle who can score more and create more chances , I would be looking for a scott brown type player just now and another kris commons, im actually disappointed at the low amount of appearances for wakaso , he is genuinely a great player that we don't give a chance to

If wigan go down he would only have 12 months left on his contract if that happens then we should go for him wouldn't be paying over 2 million

Mackey-Steven and Forrest are the only real natural wingers at the club discounting the loans

Quote from today's Derry Journal - It almost happened

The in-form Wigan left winger was locked in talks about a loan move to Celtic on transfer deadline day, but his club would not agree to the switch

Actually a bit shocked the club went for him after all his off field"incidents"( not that I have a problem with anything he said or done or anything )

He would have better on the left wing than Stokes

We don't use Stokes as a winger, though. Ronny plays him as an inside-left.
