    It is this, I feel.

Scott Brown was the same at Hibs. Now he is completely different in style.

    Everton

"On 2 September 2013, McCarthy rejoined former Wigan manager Roberto Martínez at Everton, signing a long term deal worth £13m to become the club's second most expensive player in their history. He forged a partnership with Gareth Barry which was a key factor in Everton amassing 72 points during the campaign, a club record in the Premier League. Martínez claimed that McCarthy's performances had been so impressive that his transfer value had doubled during his first season. McCarthy had to wait until the last game of the season to score his first goal for the club when he netted the opener in a 2–0 win over Hull City. On 15 March 2015, McCarthy scored his first goal of the 2014–15 season in a 3–0 home win against Newcastle United. He scored his second goal of the season in a 3–0 defeat of Manchester United at Goodison Park on 26 April."

I'd be delighted with this signing assuming it comes with a view to a permanent move.

Was gonna say I can't remember him scoring for Ireland.

I've probably watched him play every single one of those games for Ireland and a few times for Everton and Wigan and I do think he has been slightly overrated in the past. A solid Premier League footballer and definitely a level above players like McGregor, Armstrong and Johansen. He'd be a good buy for about 6/7 million but if it was any more than that I think we'd be better off looking elsewhere.

His best performance for Ireland was when we beat Germany, him and Whelan were immense in that game. Makes me think his best position is definitely as a holding midfielder.

I would take him, a bit overrated but he knows what it means to wear the jersey and he would be an upgrade.

Have a lot of love for the guy, but have been left disappointed the vast majority of times I've seen him play for Ireland.

If we were willing to gin up whatever James McCarthy money is, I'm fairly confident those dollars could be better spent elsewhere. Pass.

Still don't think we should have let Joe leave. Certainly not been replaced by anything better. Even if this McCarthy runour has any legs I still don't see him as providing anything better.

Is he better than all of our other center midfielders currently? yes.
So under the logic tht we should be signing players that would improve our team, should we sign James Mccarthy? Without doubt.

SunSport understands Celtic are working on a shock loan move for Everton star James McCarthy.

The Republic of Ireland midfielder faces an uncertain future under new boss Ronald Koeman. And Rodgers could offer the Glasgow-born ace the chance to return north, seven years after he left Hamilton Accies.

It’s understood McCarthy’s wages would not be a stumbling block as Dermot Desmond prepares to back the Celtic boss. But the 25-year-old will have options in England should Koeman let him move on next week.

But Rodgers insists he will take his time as he weighs up who to bring in.

He added: “There is a bit of work to do. We’d obviously spoken about, if qualification happens, what it is we need. But the most important thing for Celtic is that it keeps improving what we have and keeps that momentum.

“Our club has built great momentum in a short period of time and we have to keep moving forward. That will mean bringing players in who will improve us, but we have done an awful lot of great work in this market.

“There is still time to do some more and we’ll take some time over the next days to reflect on that and, hopefully, make some improvements.”

I somehow get the feeling this may be more Desmond influenced than pure BR's interest .......

Why would Brendan not want him? He'd fit in excellently here and will probably up his level as he's a massive Tim.

Don't think it'll be anything to do way Desmond. If Rogers doesn't want him it'll no happen.

A think he'd be great for us though.

Dunno how I feel I think Lucas might be more what we need.
And I'm not sure the purpose of just getting him on loan for a year, we'll just be * for next year's qualifiers when he leaves.
But given time he'd definitely improve the team.

Doubt it would be anything else except a loan to buy
