Having a brilliant year, and has been genuinely fun to watch.

Amazing what confidence and belief can do to a player.

 

JAMES Forrest was delighted to finally get his first Celtic hat-trick and said he feels he's in the midst of his best season yet as a Celt.

The 26-year-old scored all three goals in the Hoops' 3-2 win over Partick Thistle at Paradise in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup.

His goals helped book Celtic’s place in the quarter-final stages of the tournament and took his tally for the season so far to 16.

Speaking to the media, Forrest said: “That was my first hat-trick for Celtic so I’m absolutely delighted and obviously it’s great to get into the next round.

“We scored two goals in the first ten minutes then I had that chance before half-time. I’ve been on two goals before and not managed to get the hat-trick, so I’m absolutely delighted to finally get it. It was a great day, and I was glad Sinclair did so well for the third goal too.

“I honestly don’t really think about being top scorer. In my position you get chances, and with the players we have, you need to be doing well to put them away and stay in the team.

"I just need to keep working hard and hopefully contribute by scoring goals as well.”

In addition to scoring his first hat-trick, the Celtic winger is smashing his own records this season. He has now doubled his previous best goal record in a season, with many games remaining in the current campaign.

“I hit double figures before January and that’s the first time I’ve ever done that," he said. "I just want to keep going, play as many games as I can and hopefully I can keep scoring goals.

“I’ve said before last year, when the gaffer came in, I thought that was my best season and I think I've kicked on since then. We’ve still got a good few games left so we just want to keep going.”

His man of the match performance followed on from the sad news of former Celtic midfielder Liam Miller’s passing. And Forrest took the time to reflect on the career of a player he said he had grown up watching.

“It’s so sad,” said Forrest. “Everyone who knew him said nothing but good things about him. We all found out this morning and it was terrible news.

"I was coming through when he was playing. When you’re a young boy you look up to the players who are playing. He was obviously a top player and went to Man United and had a good career. It’s a sad day for his family.

“I’ve never met him but we played against his team when we went to Australia in pre-season. Young boys coming through, you look up to boys in the first-team. For the ones that know him and his family it’s terrible news.”
