True but I think guys like Irvine it was obvious we needed to get him games earlier in his career, should have been out on loan earlier. If he makes an impression he either comes into the squad or we actually might make a bit of money on them.

Although think we are doing better at this these days.

Folk like Irvine make me think of Ross Wallace. He was a decent enough player for Celtic, played in an incorrect position a lot as well. He then goes on and becomes a top Championship player and scores a few worldy free kicks then suddenly we've made a mistake letting him go.

If our genuine target is consistent Champions League participation the Academy guys have to come through at the level of a KT or a level that the likes of Aiden and Forrest were capable of although a bit more sporadically.

The fact we actually have KT now is brilliant because he is a perfect example to anyone coming through.

Totally agree mate, I'm just talking about actually getting them out there and getting games under there belts at a time where we could then sell them on for a bit of money and a sell on fee.

A way to get our academy funding itself and bringing in a bit extra. I think we tend to hang on a bit too long and then let them go for * all.

He's done very well since leaving us. Will move onto a Leeds/ Hudderfield type club soon

Turned down a £100k a week pay rise from China. :eek1:

Fair play to him, but * me he could come to regret that.

£100k for Jackson Irvine..?! Solid player, but *, thats alot even for some of the Prem players going over. Considering he's an Aussie and is most likely going to be in consideration for the national team squad, why not head closer to home for a year or two and get financially secure for life?

Mental money. Over £5m a year. Basically said that he isn't motivated by money and that he wants to play in the EPL.

Chinese clubs are/were prepared to pay Aussies huge money as they used to (as of a few weeks ago, Chinese government has brought in new laws) be considered as 'home grown' along with other players from Asian countries.

Commendable that he turned it down, I certainly wouldn't have. He has had a cracking 6 months in the Championship, but you never know what might happen, more talented players have fallen from grace. Could end up playing for an Aberdeen in 4 years time and £20 million worse off.

But fair * to him, refreshing to see.

I'd have probably moved if I were him. That's a huge sum of money to turn down.

He must have a fair amount of belief in his own ability, though.

I'd question 1 of 2 things here; the validity of that in the first instance then if it's found to be true, Jackson Irvine's mental state. He could have went to China for a year and could have looked after his family for decades.

He's been quoted as calling it "Crazy money", but obviously there's no direct quote as to what the amount is.

Being reported as a $160k a week pay rise in the media down here and £100k in the Sun.

Would have to be mental to turn it down, he is in no way guaranteed even half the career he seems to expect to have.

He may already be on good money that allows him to turn it down.

He's at Burton mate, via Ross County, can't imagine it being unbelievable money, certainly by football standards.

Would honestly be surprised if he's earning more than 150k sterling a year.

If he's earning anywhere near that figure he's still able to live comfortably.

Of course, but a pittance compared to what reports are suggesting.

Think he's mad personally, but understand his intentions.

It's not like a Diego Costa or a Hulk, this boy is a relative nobody who will never command money like that anywhere else in the world. Big call.

100k for a week? Aye. But that's as long as I'd last there. Although 100k a week I could have a jet take me out of China whenever I wanted. It's China ffs I'd rather earn 2k a week in Burton.
