I do the same. And if you get cashback on the credit card it amounts to a couple of hundred pounds a year you get back if you just use it everyday as if it were a debit card. You just need to be disciplined enough to pay it off each month and not to dip into the credit.

Too expensive to live, too expensive to die. I've told her if I pop my clogs, roll me in a few black bags, book for a Hoops game and dump me over the ferry half way. Cut out the middle man.:77:

Yup.....do the same with credit cards.......used to use AMEX who are excellent and not as out of reach as some people think.....if used correctly and cleared every month can make a couple hundred (per annum)on what you'd be spending anyway. Now use Flybe which pretty much pays for the 4 of us up to my mums in the summer other than taxes....probably worth £500/600. GOLDEN RULE....direct debit to clear every month! I reckon i'm probably one of their worst customers.:56:

Also re mortgage...i have an offset tracker with Firstdirect and every 6 months i spend half an hour on phone with them and provisonally book a fixed rate with them as a back up as when these low rates start rising i don't want to be in that scramble....plus good deals will vanish quick!!!

Technically I have - £30k on a mort. (cheap money so I keep it).

I also have approx £1800 on my credit card for this month but that'll be cleared as usual.

Don’t know and don’t care. It gets paid and I’ve still a few quid to spend. Mind I’m due one of my cc shuffles soon. When 0% runs outs I just transfer to a new card or cards.
Tbh it’s not that much compared to some folk, but summer school breaks are expensive when you’ve kids. Example already had are hols this summer, but then last night I booked a few days in Donegal and I know the misses wants to book a stay in tayto park for the kids.

No counting mortgage as you need a place to stay.

So none. Except that tenner I owe my mum from about 5 year ago :56:

With that should it be changed so that once someone who has student debt has a job they should start paying it back no matter the wage the student has.

Not too great financially, got made redundant a few years ago and had around £25k of debt not including mortgage (must be around £50k left) .

On a payment plan hopefully clear end of next year all going well.

Nothing! Dropped out of University because I couldn’t afford it and hated debt. Despise banks so won’t let them get a penny off me than needed. In fact, I absolutely despise the fact I need an account to get paid in to. It is immoral. Pay my tax and give me the rest and not them *! If you can find a way of borrowing and not paying it back then please do it for me!

Went on the * last Friday as I had a friend visiting and all the nearby bank machines were out of order. First thing I did the next morning was give it back. Struggled to sleep, even after a heap of drink! I don’t how the poor * that have to survive off payday loans do it. It’s heartbreaking that people have to these days.
Personally, I think I would rather starve though. The anxiety would kill me far quicker than the hunger.

Student loan is about the height of it. Not sure if you really count a mortgage as dept??
