Biggest debt is my mortgage it's manageable though, put in a 5 year fixed rate which still has over 3 years to run at which point my salary will hopefully be a lot higher.

I use credit cards but pay off entire balance each month off my debit card. I save money every month so in a healthy position relatively speaking. Always been wary of too much debt. Any significant debt above my mortgage has always been a loan off my parents which I can pay back at reasonable amounts.

    Sore one for me this!!!

Was mortage free a couple of year ago with multiple 5 fig bank account after match betting for a couple of years. Then got hooked on casino bonuses and spunked the lot in about 6 months (not a kick off 6 figs) after getting depression stuck in house with wee one after being made redundant. It's only money.:fear: So back into mortage for a fair chunk but that's my only 'debt' if you will. Luckily manage to clear everyhting else every month.

By the by, lot of people don't count mortgage as debt.....i don't myself but if you want to then fair enough. Better than dead money rent imo.

ps- as long as debt is managable it's not necessarily a bad thing to have as you'll always get credit fairly easily for an emergengy.etc

Aye, you need to be able to be seen that you can manage debt before you can receive loans etc. Therefore, a little debt is actually a good thing, for some.

Being in the money in finance, accounting or securities has always been referred to as being in the black. I.e profitable.

Mind me asking now old you are? What you describe is how I see myself in 3 years or so. I want to be debt free in a few months and plan on buying a house in a few years. Looked at fixed rates for 3-5 years and like the idea that it would let me move career and work my way up the salary ladder in that time, so the mortgage will always be manageable.
250 a month student loan? The *? Not from scotland I take it? Mines is 20 quid or so, and I actually don't count it as debt. Anyone else that way?

All the best with the CA adventure.

Since you're a tax advisor you would be able to explain to Paul that CFDs are tax free. Not that he will believe it.

Going to be about 10 years behind you, wish I was your age and with my current mindset\outlook. Got it in my head that I want to buy a house in about 3 years. 5 tops. 35 would mean a 25 year mortgage paid off by the time I'm 60 without paying extra to it. Don't think I want a mortgage any later in life than that. If anything maybe take a shorter one.
