I like the jam, the Beatles , oasis, the who, the cure, arctic monkeys etc.. I'm not too clued with the whole rap scene mate, but all the mainstream stuff is about all that gangster *, Eminem has been going on about his mum for a good ten years. and little Wayne's becoming a martian. :84: When I here it on the radio it makes me cringe, the lyrics are terrible, the beats are worse, When I see all these kind of tracks taking over the charts, It makes me seriously worry about the way music is going. Show me a good this good Scottish rapper mate. Just thinking about the Scottish accent is making me quiver with disgust:icon_mrgreen:

Problem with current rap is it's all just so Music Industry. The whole point of rap & hiphop was to provide an alternative to that *, now it's totally become what it was fighting against. The huge mass of it is just a sham, empty image. The guys who 15-20 years ago would have been management have now discovered they can be the Stars. Most current big-name rappers are basically just businessmen, not artists at all.

Guess I'm painting a kinda bleak picture, there is good stuff about too, interesting stuff that stretches the boundaries. Why? are still good - doing something a bit more interesting than the run-of-the-mill mainstream -

Devlin is COMFORTABLY the best lyricist in the UK, in any genre of music.

The lyrics to your average indie song are absolute nonsense.

That's much closer to 'real' hip hop. The guy is talented, and he raps about important stuff, but surely not the best lyricist?

Where's the double entendres? Where's the metaphor, the verse that needs 5 listens before you really get it?

Eminem without a doubt is the best lyrical genius. The whole early 2000's were the record labels giving him an image, he is so much more real nowadays, Recovery best * ive ever listened to.

What is it exactly that I like about the rap i listen to?
Hmmm, I dont know lyrics, beat, sound, its the whole thing once its together, its music to my ears.:50: you got a problem with that

a think the boy is a genius listened to his full album and not 1 bad song with lyrics that blow your mind. as for that song it really shows the way the world is and the way human beings have become and is just really raw there isnt many people who sound and write like he does that get recognition it is by no means his best but in the context of society today a think it makes it 1 of the best release of 2010 theres 1 that you will be at for a while :icon_mrgreen:

Eminem is a clever lyricist and I really like some of his stuff. Not the best though, not by a long shot.

What is it about the lyrics you like? Post some up some lyrics here so we can all see :)

Someones acting like a real * :56:

I feel like when I bend over backwards for you all you do is laugh
Cause that ain't good enough you expect me to fold myself in half
Til I snap
Don't think I'm loyal
All I do is rap
How can I moonlight on the side
I have no life outside of that
Don't I give you enough of my time
You don't think so do you
Jealous when I spend time with the girls
Why I'm married to you still man I don't know
But tonight I'm serving you with papers
I'm divorcing you
Go marry someone else and make em famous
And take away their freedom like you did to me
Treat em like you don't need them and they ain't worthy of you
Feed em the same * you made me eat
I'm moving on forget you oh,
Now I'm special? Oh, I didn't feel special when i was with you
All I ever felt was this
Helplessness
Imprisoned by a selfish *
Chew me up and spit me out
I fell for this so many times
It's ridiculous
And still I stick with this
I'm sick of this but in my sickness and addiction
You're as addictive as they get
Evil as they come vindictive as they make em
My friends keep asking why I can't just walk away from
I'm addicted
To the pain, the stress, the drama
I'm drown in so I guess imma mess
Cursed and blessed
But this time imma
Ain't changing my mind
I'm climbing out this abyss
You screaming as I walk out that I'll be missed
But when you spoke to people who meant the most to you
You left me off your list

* you hip-hop
I'm leaving you, my life sentence is served *

25 to life - eminem.

Thats lyrics that mean something to him.
He's a real true artist, almost every person in hip-hop writes to get noticed, em is now like * it, this is me.

But lyrics dont have to mean anything, I listen to Drake and JCole for the calm melody they have, Knaye and the likes of Jay for all the mad verses they have.

songs are songs, all different people like them for all different reasons.

I like those lyrics - they are nice and genuine. None of this * about guns, bling or drugs.

I guess this where we disagree. Beats and melody are important, but hiphop and rap are nothing without the lyrics.

Understandable, maybe i wrote that wrong.
Hip-hop is based on the lyrics, but Nowadays all the rappers, every single one, except Em, and i feel like J.Cole and Drake, other rappers just make them up to sound cool and not mean anything.

Lil wayne, rick ross talk about '*,money, weed' and getting 'rich off cocaine'.

i suppose wayne does get all three tho.

25 to life is a decent song but as a concept the idea has been done before, and done better. Common's 'I Used To Love H.E.R.' is a far better tune that treats Hip Hop with the same sort of metaphor.

In all seriousness though if you think Recovery is the best rap album ever then you must be about 12 or never listened to much of anything else. I'd say it's Eminem's fourth best album, third at a push, and nowhere near approaching top twenty of all time. It isn't even the best realease of 2010. I don't mean to sound patronising but what age are you?

Hip Hop used to be a life style, nowadays it's the mainstream music no 1.

everybody who wants to be cool or hard listen to it when it's all about banging *, getting rich and driving fancy cars.

Hip Hop is dead.

Except the underground, which I'm not interested in anymore.

I agree with the statement that rap is dead for the most part.

I'll listen to some of the foreign rap in other languages occasionally. I will admit that I like guys like K'naan who are decent. I use to really like Public Enemy and Wu-Tang Clan back in the days :)
