Thanks guys. I thought as much. I know interval training on the treadmill is better for increasing your stamina.

Either of you know about ab toner belts?

Googled ab belts a while ago, you'll find a fair few articles on them, most say they're a load of *.

They'll be better than nothing I suppose, but probably not by much.

waste of money once you lose the weight you'll see your natural abs come through, then the more you work out the the better the conditioning will be.

me and the wife started cycling before she got preggo and we lost weight so fast I really couldn't believe it, she lost something like 2 stone in about 3-4 months I lost something like 1 stone although I was also taking up weight training also so my weight loss didn't match my more toned body.

watch your diet though, the more you work out the more you eat, so you really need to stay on top of the training, example look at some Olympic swimmers when they are training and the amount they eat then retire just how quickly they balloon.

I've been working out properly for about 18 months - 2 years.

I will only ever do a maximum of 2 muscle groups in a session eg

    Chest and Biceps
    Back and triceps
    Legs and Shoulders

I've dramatically upped my protein intake and try to go to the gym 4-5 times a week.

I was in the low-70kg's when I started and I'm now 86kg's of mostly muscle, although I still have legs like matchsticks as I always neglect to work them properly!

My aim is to get to the mid to high 90kgs as I am 6"3. Hopefully the progress will continue.

Make of this what you will, just thought i'd share my gym story so far.

Cool mate, would it be bad to do all muscle groups in one day, 3 times a week? obviously with a days rest inbetween?

I'm quite tall like yourself mate - 6'4 but i'm only 12.3 stone, probably should be heavier than that.

Started drinking "Total Gainer" protein from myprotein.com and have like 1,2 or 3 shakes everyday - usually 3 on a gym day. I'm realitively new to the gym so I've not gained much yet. Hoping to go from 78kg to around 90-100ishkg, i know it'll take a few years but I'm wanting to get fit and in shape.

Different people say different things about total body workouts. Have heard good things about the "push/pull workout" where one day will be dedicated to the pushing muscles (Shoulders, pecs, triceps) and another to the pulling muscles (back, biceps) with squats being done on both days for legs and then repeating this cycle.

For me I've noticed good gains with my 2 muscle groups-per day routine but I think as long as you have a good amount of compound exercises like bench press, shoulder press, squats, pull ups and you work hard and get plenty protein then you should succeed!
