Are there any good songs (new or old) that you've discovered this year?

I've discovered Frightened Rabbit, Vampire Weekend, Bob Marley and a few others.

    What about you?

I wouldn't say discovered as such because I already knew of them, but The Stone Roses.

I knew 1 or 2 of their songs already, but I became a huge fan and discovered a lot more stuff by them this year.

    I am the resurrection, brilliant!

The best band I've come across this year by a mile are Boards of Canada (from Edinburgh). Electronic Post Rock at it's best. And Mogwai have left a big impression on me this year even though they've been around for years. Godspeed You! Black Emperor, a band that haven't released an album since 2002 but heard them this year for the first time and they blew me away since I heard their Peel session. Explosions in the Sky (from Canada) another * amazing band I hadn't heard of until about three months ago, * Is An Astronaut another Post Rock band that just * blew my head clean off. I like Hot Chip, saw them doing the festivals in the summer and they looked immense but I was a bit disappointed with this years album apart from the track 'Over and over' which was * ace, so I'm looking forward to the next album.

Also I discovered Tom Waits (Through Rosario) I think it was, in the music appreciation group here, loved all his albums that I grabbed. Listened to BB King for the first time this year and his last album was class I thought straight from the opening track. I found an album by an acoustic guitar band called * just by chance and haven't had it off Winamp since, 'My get up and go just got up and went' it's called.

Finding new music every day though, last.fm is a great thing indeed.

Sigur Ros, don't know how I forgot them, brilliant band I also just came across this year. I think I'm also the only * that hasn't seen them this year :54:

Pendulum kick * *, great band. Loved 'Hold Your Colour'.

Thanks for recommending Frightened Rabbit to me, great band, I ended up recommending them to a mate and he went to see them in Dundee last week and loved it. So cheers again.
