The irony in shops that sell the very substance that gets you * up wont sell you said substance if you’re * up.

Ludicrous idea and will ensure people shop elsewhere. Nice one, SPAR.

Given there are already rules around drunk and disorderly behaviour, and given the shop already has discretion over who it sells alcohol to, I see no point in this rule whatsoever.

And as others have said, there is no chance I would be breathalising drunks if I worked on a till in Spar. I would serve anyone who wanted it.

I don't see the justification in this...

What's wrong with being drunk and wanting more booze?

Who has the right to decide you've had enough?

You might just be taking it home to drink because you want more. Or it might be to have the next day, or to give away... Etc etc.

I don't think there is any legal limit on how steamin' you are allowed to be in your own home either!
    Not yet anyway.

I personally hate this rule. The pubs do it to people all the time and its totally unfair.

Fair enough if you're steaming and being a * to other customers, then no more drink for you and you should be sent up the road.

But you cant sell a guy drink all day....be quite happy to empty his wallet in your establishment and then turn round and say...."Naw you've had enough pal".

You wouldnae get a chip shop turning some gannit away cause they've ate two sausage suppers, a single haggis, four fritters and 9 pickled onions and are still trying to order more.

Madmen who come up with these rules/laws! IMO though, they should just ban drink altogether. Be a safer world out there if there was no drink. In saying that, the aul poiteen stills would be out quicker than what jack wrote the note if they where to ban it.

Been lifted myself for being to drunk here in mayo but only had about 6 pints. Guards use it as a means to lift anyone who they want to. Same thing happened to my mate who only had 4 pints few weeks later. Couldn't believe what we were getting done for.

I could actually see the Scottish government endorsing this sort of thing!

Would sit well alongside their 'minimum alcohol pricing' bill that they hope to ratify today.

They do love their role of 'nanny state trailblazers'.

It makes sense in theory I guess, as it obviously prevents people that are hammered from buying even more alcohol, but I’d doubt it would work in practice.

But in theory it works. But then again it’s only in theory, after all, in theory, Capitalism works...

Notions of Capitalism may work in a specific economic climate, but Capitalism as a whole is a self-destroying concept. It is unsustainable by its very nature.
