Spar shops in Cardiff have to breathalyse customers who they think are drunk if they are trying buy alcohol. The police are now getting shopkeepers to do their job for them.
Should be fun and games, recipe for violence.

Would this work in the Spar shops in Glasgow?

Waste of time that's only going to cause hassle for shop workers.

    Load of nonsense.
Isn't there laws and regulations as to who can breathalyse other people ?

Shops will be leaving themselves wide open for claims.

Wouldn't imagine it would go down to well anywhere to be honest , but they already have security guards now in many of the small supermarkets so I would of thought they are there to watch out for shop lifters but also any riff raff or trouble whether that be related to drugs or drunken behaviour whilst using the store .

Not really as a shop keeper has the right to refuse anyone really.

They could just say I thought the guy had too much to drink.

Surely if someone is too drunk to buy more alcohol then you aint going to be needing a breath test to figure it out.

    To confirm their suspicions. ?

Look at, I think its a daft idea which will lead to many grey areas (human rights issues and whatnot). but I can understand that some shops might be plagued with drunk people the whole time, and it might help deter some of the Nutters if they know they will not get served.

I feel sorry for the poor wee defenceless folk that work in these shops - imagine being on minimum wage and having to breathalize some cunt who then takes the nip because you're only doing your job?

Imagine a bunch of Celtic fans after a game pop in to pick up some booze and their all being breathalysed. Glad I don’t work in a spar shop

So where is the drunk limit set ? I don't have a problem with staff refusing to serve people who are drunk but do they need a breathalyser for that ? Should the rules for limiting a persons being able to buy alcohol and walk back to their house be the same as stopping somebody driving ?

Should staff stop folk buying lottery tickets if they judge they are too poor ?

I already said I don't think it a good idea.

Surely this is a piss take.......
Imagine trying to buy beer and some 18 year old or any one atall trying to tell you they have to test you first.

I know its not a legal thing but id imagine people would have to some kind of proper training in how to use/calibrate one of them things?

Whats next?bar staff doing the same?bouncers being issued stun gun?

Cant see this happening as there would be to much hassle for shops.

What would be the limit? Say I have 4 cans out the back in the summer. I then fancy a few more and nip to the shop. Would I be refused? :56:

If the breathalyser is the same as the one used to stop drink driving then yes. You could also have the situation where you have a good drink on the Saturday then go out on a Sunday afternoon to buy a 4 pack to watch the football in your house and get refused :56:
