Watched that “Us” from that Jordan Peele *. An absolute joke of a film :56:

Thought Get Out was quality as well.

Really enjoyed the new Lion King.

Not many movies or tv shows bring a tear to my eye. The original always had and this did too, soundtrack brings it all flooding back!

'Swiss Army Man' - quite probably the most bizarre * film I've ever seen... I can't even begin to explain it!

Well worth a watch! 8 out of 10 sober... 10 out of 10 stoned.

Jordan Peele is second only to Ari Aster in terms of being overrated as *.

Thought it was really good too. Seth Rogan was born to play Pumba.

Only thing that bugged me was the Timone and Pumba animation. At times it looked really cheap and "stop motion". All the other animals looked superb though.

Still think the Jungle Book has been the best of the remakes so far.

    The Lion King

An absolute heap of *. The voice acting from Donald Glover and Beyoncé was genuinely cringeworthy.
Only positive was Seth Rogen as Pumba.

Once upon a time in Hollywood. Quentin Tarantino's new one. I’m not really sure what to make of it. It was slightly disappointing, not enough of a script really the ending was good but I’m not sure if it was worth the previous 2 and a bit hours.

The acting was good, the scenes were well shot, I imagine if someone grew up in LA in the 60s they would love it, there are some inside jokes and things in the movie that probably cater to a small population. The old western style tv shows you see would appeal to the older generation too.

    Overall I would give it a 3.5/5

That's concerning. This film has been getting touted as his masterpiece too.

One of the few movies for the remainder of the year Ive really been looking forward to seeing. Movies not out till the middle of next month? How'd you manage the early viewing mate?

I live in the US just now mate, not sure when it comes out over there. I think I definitely need a 2nd viewing to make sure, btw the characters are phenomenal and the chemistry Leo and Brad have is brilliant but like I said I feel like the script isn’t up to all that much

    It is man. It’s brutal.

Took all the personality out of the original.

I’m looking forward to it but it doesn’t look half as interesting as most of his other films.

Apparently it's the way that it's written/filmed which makes it. It's supposed to be very similar to pulp fiction in terms of how the sub plots all come together in the end. Love that sort of storytelling.

John Wick 3 - More of the same action and violence as the first 2. I really like these films. 8/10

What a blatant and cynical moneygrab. I cannot comment on the photo-realism of the animals and scenery, but the story is virtually a scene by scene remake of the vsstly more endearing, charasmatic, touching and funny original. This was dull in comparison. There is so much source material they could have used with this - not only the original movie, but the musical, or even look to incorperate other elements from Hamlet, instead of doing the least interesting thing possible. And with a near identical script to work from it really underlines the paucity of the voice work here, which overall added nothing that the original did not already possess, and indeed, as much as I like John Oliver or Chiwetel Ejiofor, they brought nothing to Rowan Atkinson's Zazu or Jermy Irons' Scar, and could go down the list of the entire cast similiarly. There was not a single moment in this movie that I felt like I was missing out on anything, or flt did a better rendition than the animated original. Th highlight of it all was the blessed relief of when it was finally over.

Of all the Disney remakes this has been by far the worst. Maleficient was an interesting and completely different spin on Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, while largely the same still had charm and a fantastic Gaston that made it worthwhile, Cinderella and more recently Aladdin both while remaining true to their originals added extra elements - expanding and adding depth and a genuine story arch for Jasmine in Aladdin is a case in point. Even Dumbo deserves more prais for at least attempting to be more, and that wasn't great - more a case of what it could have been than what is is (but that is the hallmark of so many Tim Burton films). Even the Jungle Book, which this is most closely aligned with - at that extends beyond the sshared director credit - was infinately better than this. This is the Disney equivilent of the Gus Van Sant remake of Psycho. It has and will make a tonne of money but wow, no way does it deserve it.
