True but it’s essentially a character study. Sam Rockwell is brilliant in it.

It was a decent film but I don't get the rave reviews mate. Good performances all round, couldn't fault the acting. Rockwell's character was a bit out there all the same, a bit far fetched for someone to be carrying on like that with no repercussions.

Well, considering it's based on RL events, it's to be expected to be a bit predictable, lol.

Can’t recommend Letterboxd enough. You just stick your films on you’re watchlist and then rate then when you’re finished.

Basically a diary for movies but it helps to keep track of wants you want to watch as well.

    Bumblebee 8/10.

Easily the best Transformers movie. Set in the 80’s and the soundtrack is top drawer. Some cringey/cheesy moments but a cracking film.

I read a big thing recently picking out everything wrong with the film and it is very much wide of the mark in relation to real events. One example being the Live Aid concert.. Freddie wasn't doing that as a last hurrah at all.

No-where in the film does he say he was doing Live Aid as a last hurrah, he said he wanted to continue to be a performer and not be defined by his illness. There's a lot of inaccuracies, but that's true of many films based on true events.

What? In the film do they not convince him to go out for live aid or something to that effect? It's far from factually accurate.

Also, they did not add him to the band after he randomly approached them after some gig in a dodgy bar. There are a lot of things that don't match up.

It says at the end of the film when he died, it doesn’t say Live Aid is a last hurrah. I know that’s not how he joined the band, it’s also not how he met Mary. Doesn’t detract from the quality of the film though.

Exactly, that's why I said it was a brilliant film. The fact that the film didn't match up with the facts detracted from my enjoyment of the film personally.

There are other things like where he met his eventual boyfriend and his relationship with his dad/family. Mostly pure fabrication in the film.

.. and you're not seriously trying to suggest that the film doesn't make live aid out to be a last hurrah? He's basically dying on stage in the film.

To be clear I couldn't recommend it highly enough before I discovered the actual ins and outs of the facts relating to the film. I came out of the cinema having thoroughly enjoyed a really really excellent film.

It says right at the end of the film that he died years later.

Yeah I'm not on about his death I'm on about his last hurrah as a performer.

Not even close. In just the 12 months following Live Aid they had a massive tour and did the soundtrack for Highlander, while beginning to work on their next studio album. In the years following before he passed away they released a number of studio albums, including A Kind of Magic (which included material from Highlander) and The Miracle.

Live Aid was far from being a last hurrah for FM or for the band, but it was used as the centrepiece of the film, from beginning and building to it throughout as a dramatic measure as the heartbeat of the film, as much as the perfomance that day became the wake up call on the day to the world. Queen undoubtedly stole the show on a day when literally the creme da la creme of everyone in the music business were all playing either in London or in Philadelphia - they were the best and wasnt even close. Also by using the Live Aid set as the focal point, it allowed the film makers to skirt the issue of AIDS with little more than the cursory glance that it does, while acknowledging it and seeing barely the initial stages of the decline of his health, and by doing so underlines of how FM didn't want to be defined by this battle in the years that followed, but rather to carry on as a songwriter and performer.

This doesn't detract from it being a film well worth seeing and able to appreciate for it's many good and even great elements. Bohemian Rhapsody is a good movie, but it is a dog with it's share of fleas, with a fantastic performance at the heart of it. It's a good movie containing what could have been a great movie trying to get out, yet still one well worth checking out and being appreciated for what it is.

You just can’t cram everything around Freddie Mercury’s life into a 90 minute film.

As good as the film was ,it should have been longer and much more factual than it was.
