Back in 2005, my flatmate at uni was studying Spanish and part of his coursework was an essay on this film. Some pretty heavy messages in there, great watch.

Can't say I really connected with this. Despite the obvious symbolism and metaphors built into this story, the world building and it's inhabitants, in addition to some decidedly Mad Max-esque riffs, jacked up to the size of cities, no less, it lacked that rawness, futility and punch.

    Stan & Ollie

This was really good. Like, really good! Set during the final tour or Laurel and Hardy in 1953. The story is solid and writing is well done, the characters were engaging, charismatic with the perfect touch of pathos. it was funny, the acting was done well, and as good as the title duo are, their respective wives (and the women playing them) are every bit as good when they come into the film. Indeed, they almost steal the show for a while. This year has been a bit of a dud in terms of comedies, IMO, and even though the comedy is only one aspect of what makes this film work, it still stands out as the most laughs have had in a cinema this year. Will definitely be checking this out again.

Getting too old probably if they doing the film and planning more sequels makes sense to have a younger actor for longevity... That said Ron perlman always will be the best

They're okay, both are the sort of film you can just sit down and watch for a couple of hours and they're an exciting watch decent pace and what not

    Bird Box

Thought this would be garbage, thought it was really good tbh.

Sandra Bullock played the part well, and the story ain't that bad.

If you liked A quiet place, you probably like this, even if you didnt i still think this is worth a watch.

    8/10

If you have read the book,it has a much darker ending to the movie apparently.

This was ok in the background earlier today. Might be because I was the only one not really paying attention but I didn’t think much of it.

It was ok for family entertainment, but that's about as good as I can give it. The story was ok (even if at times a bit predictable), some of the acting and dialogue was kinda clunky and varied from the very good (Emily Blunt was spot on) to the dreadful (Ben Whishaw was especially eye rollingly cringey), the songs were ok (only really one semi-memorable one - the 'music hall' rendition of Cover is not the Book), and the choregraphy (according to my daughter) only really impressed during the 'Light Fantastic'... but nothign really stood out or was exceptional.

In a year in which there has been a rebirth of the musical & music based films, with the success of Greatest Showman, Star is Born, Mamma Mia II and Bohemian Rhapsody etc, has shown there is so much room and appetite for this type, MPReturns is by far the weakest musically and underwhelming overall. No doubt it will make big money (especially over this holiday period), but I would much rather sit through any of the aforementioned films again over this.

Went through a faze when I loved everything Gael Garcia Bernal did. First I seen was Y Tu Mama Tambien which is excellent. Motorcycle Diaries. Liked Mammoth too. Now that I read that IMDB link I realise I've hardly seen any of his films but he does seem one of those actors who has great taste in scripts.

    Creed II

    was * brilliant.

Think I preferred the first one as a stand alone film, but growing up watching the Rocky films and Rocky 4 being my favourite, cannie beat the nostalgia in this one.

Watched Bird Box and thought it was really good. There was a postential for a real horror in there but I like the way they took it.

Really liked Bird Box except the ending which was slightly disappointing. Still 8/10.

Visually stunning, but overall it was fairly average. Thought the story was quite bland and predictable. Expected a bit more.

    A Monster Calls

One of the most emotional films I've ever seen. The last 20 minutes were painful to watch. Superb acting and a really moving story. Great visuals as well.
