Plenty of movies have or need long runtimes, so in itself is not so much the issue, because if a movie needs that long to tell the story etc, then that what it takes, and dont have a problem with that. But some movies are just drawn out unnecessarily and this is the case here.

You can clearly feel as though he was thinking oscar-bait when acting and directing this... when really, the only aspect of the film that stood out was Viola Davis' powerhouse performance.

Aye Denzel was rather off in the whole film imo, was still an ok film but a poor effort compared to some of his other films.

Pretty much agree with this. More than a few nods of Pulp Fiction, amongst other films... more than a dash of Identity thrown in for good measure, for example. Quality soundtrack also, but not sure if it will stand the test of time the way that PF has, and didn't leave the theatre thinking I'd just witnessed an instant classic, like I had 20-whatever years ago when PF came out, however enjoyed it for what it was, none the less. Plus Jeff Bridges is always worth the proverbial price of admission.

Goddard is usually a very consistant writer - thought his previous screenplay for The Martian was terrific, albeit able to have Scott's direction and an outstanding outing from Matt Damon - but time will tell if he really can replicate Tarantino, who he clearly is paying tribute to here. But will definitely check this one out again.

    Venom

Cant say I ever really got into this. Maybe it is a more visual film but it just never really felt connected with the characters or the story. Superhero films can be very hit or miss for me, and this one I won't be bothering with again.

I agree with you on Venom, the story really lacked something, in my opinion.

I went to see First Man, last night. It was quite slow and Ryan Gosling always seems to play an aloof sort of character, regardless of the role he plays. It was too long.

Just watched Halloween tonight, the 2018 horror.

Thought it was excellent. I would have enjoyed it regardless to be honest as I'm a massive fan of the franchise and the original is one of my top 10 movies.

It was definitely a nod to John Carpenter's original, the build up and the music and particularly Michael Myers himself was very 1978 like. Nick Castle reprised the role which was great as he was my favourite actor that played him. His gait, his mask and everything about him was exactly how he was in the first movie which I liked it.

It did feel quite Rob Zombie like though, violent as *. A lot of blood and heeds getting blown off and brains being splattered haha. Was quite Jason Voorhees like in the way he just butchered *. At one point he just wanders in to a house and grabs a hammer and * up this wee old granny and then let's himself out the front door. * ruthless.

Totally recommend though, especially horror fans. Top notch! 8.5/10

    Bohemian Rhapsody

Biopic about Queen, focusing mostly on Freddie Mercury. The performances are quite good and believeable, the music is great... because hey, it's Queen! Not a flawless film and there are aspects of his life that deserved more attention, which at times it tends to swerve away from, much to the film's detriment it feels. It culminates in the LIVE AID show, so avoids the twilight of his life (though as it says in the movie, that he is a performer and use the remaining time he had left making music not dwelling on being a 'posterboy' for AIDS etc), but even before that it brushes over or skirts around some things that should have delved into more. That said, I'll be checking it out again.

    The Hate U Give

Powerful themes touched upon and explored here - sometimes very heavy handed and sometimes incredibly well. Although ficticious it's still very relevant, with what continues to be happening in America about police shootings, #blacklivesmatter and the continued issues regarding race relations etc. The source material makes a worthy continuation of the conversation that Blackkklansman started recently. Overall not as good as that film, but still topical and well worth a watch.

Really enjoyed this film .the young leading actress was a starr in name and performance

Nice to watch a film that a a story centred around it without having to involve guns and explosions every 5 mins
