    This would have been one of my first choice for a centre back this summer. Him and Jozo as a pairing would be excellent.

    REPORTS in the Croatian media this afternoon have said Celtic are back in for January transfer target Filip Benkovic.
    Celtic were priced out of a move for the 20-year-old at the time with Dinamo Zagreb sticking a £15million price on his head.

    It remains to be seen if they were serious about that valuation of the player, but it would suggest they aren’t if Celtic are still sniffing around.

    The Croatian site also claims a Celtic representative may already be in Zagreb.

    Filip currently occupies the space left by Jozo Simunovic in the Dinamo defence. Is Celtic about have a Croatian centre back pairing? The lad looks like a carbon copy of Jozo.

    Other than this article there’s nothing else at the minute to substantiate these claims – it has also been reported that the player is currently injured.

    What is definite is Celtic are certainly upping their efforts to bring in a defender before the deadline.

    A fee of 17m euros was mentioned for Benkovic in January but a more realistic fee with a substantial sell-on clause could see business completed before tonight’s midnight transfer deadline.

    Negotiations to sign Simunovic were lengthy but having come to an agreement for that transfer the blue print for a fresh transfer between the two clubs is already in place.

    Benkovic not moving to Celtic
    There's been a lot of social media chat about Celtic making a move for Croatian defender Filip Benkovic after a website in his homeland said talks were taking place in Zagreb. The stopper had travelled to Moldova with his nation's Under-21 team but isn't in the matchday squad.

    He may be making a deadline day move but STV understands it won't be to Celtic. Do they have another centre-back lined up for a late move?
