    CELTIC could end their right-back hunt by snapping up FC Porto's Fernando Fonseca.

    Brendan Rodgers is desperate to land a long-term replacement for Mikael Lustig this month.

    Fonseca, 21, is the latest right-back to emerge on Celtic's radar as they scour Europe.

    Portuguese sources last night confirmed Porto would be open to doing business with the Hoops.

    The Portugal under-21 cap was close to joining Juventus for £2million in the summer but has since fallen out of the picture.

    Fonseca, who had a loan spell at Estoril last season, has made just three appearances for the Porto B side this term.

    He is keen to move on and get first-team football - and Celtic could offer him a chance to kickstart his career.

    The Hoops have also looked at Atalanta's Timothy Castagne and Olympiacos' Omar Elabdellaoui.

    But the Italians put a £10m price tag on the Belgian, while the Greek side have vowed not to sell their right-back.

    Fonseca has 18 months left on his contract and is now likely to be available for under £2m.

    Would be buzzing with that, but a cb can wait till the summer if worst comes to worst. This guy and the Ukrainian and I’ll be pleased tbh, better than our usual January windows anyway.

    I'm guessing if this boy signs Rodgers believes Ralston still has a future here and this boy and Ralston would compete for first choice. Would prefer us to sign a more experienced fullback but at least it's not O'donnell :56:

    We already have Manny Perez coming in as a young prospect and Ralston has a long term contract here, we need someone with a bit more pedigree to be first choice.

    We’ve looked at ones and their clubs wanted 8M and 10M, the market is so inflated already and even more so in January. Hopefully this lad is ready to step up if we bring him in.
