I used to think that as well, I had only ever tried grain whiskies and even the smell made me feel queasy. Then I was given some malts to try and I couldn't believe the difference. Now I have a collection of over 50 various whiskes and keep looking for new ones to try.

The Hakushu single malt. Not a huge connoisseur, but I really liked this one.

I've never tried it myself, but for over £3.5K I'd * hope so.

You like what you like. :lager: If you have tried malts and don't like them there's not much point forcing it. If you need someone to take those malts you have off your hands though... :84:

My all time favourite. Prefer the peaty malts.

That said, I tried a * blend a few months ago. Nikka, from the barrel which was very surprising. Infact that's a shout... If anyone's looking to buy a whisky as a gift for someone then I'd put my * on the block and recommend this...

I usually go with Bushmills Black Bush or Tullamore Dew. I like some Bourbons...Jim Beam's Red Stag goes along well with a nice stout.

    I haven't found a Scotch I've liked yet, unfortunately.

I was sceptical as well!! For two reasons 1)Japanese and 2) a blend!

    Its lovely though.

It could be ambrosia and it should still be avoided.

Whisky should be made in the motherland.

A few decent whisky deals, for a change, on the Amazon deal of the day today. The picks for me are the Lagavulin 16 for £38.49, Auchentoshan 3 Wood for £27.50 and the Dalmore 12 gift pack for £34.99.

Much more a fan of Bourbon palate.

    Wild Turkey Rare Breed
    is probably my personal fav.
Gentleman Jack (by Jack Daniels) has to be one of the smoothest I've enjoyed, and can't go wrong with this.
    Makers' Mark is also quality.
Most of the Wild Turkey range are favourites also. Gobble, gobble!

Jim Beam is pretty much crap. If any would go the Black Label, but most of the Jim Beam range is pretty meh. They've a good marketing division but the product itself is really not great and can get better for around the same price.

Jack Daniels, although technically not a Bourbon, is decent and some of their special editions are good, but would rather pay a few extra quid and get a bottle of Gentleman Jack instead than the regular No.7 or overpay for the special editions.

Not as big a fan of the Rye variations of any brand though. Maybe it's just my palate, but not really a fan, but if I were to pick one, would stick with the Wild Turkey Rye, but for the same price could get an 8yo Wild Turkey or Gentleman Jack for around the same.

Also those infusion variations (Jack Daniels Honey etc) I consider to be more liquior than whiskey, same as the likes of Southern Comfort, which again is definitely NOT a Bourbon.

Usually, Christmas time is good for deals on bottles of malt in supermarkets, not sure if these have been affected by the minimum pricing though, as I seen a Sainburys advert which said Scotland was excluded from a certain deal on Spirits.

Before I have got Glenmorangie, Chivas Regal (not a malt but still decent) and Glenfiddich for decent prices.

All good options, also enjoy Jura and Connemara if you want a peaty Irish whiskey.

I know there’s a fair few whisky aficionados so recommendations please. I’ve got ‘no practical limit’ to buy a case of booze for myself so thought I’d get a case of single malt.

Most expensive I’ve went is your 50 quid range, is there anything a bit more expensive/special out there that I’d be daft not to have a look at in this one off occasion?
