Is this a remix? The gender neutrality of that appeals to me.

Until The Last ( The Wakes)

An unsung hero today will die
In an unknown grave his body'll lie
And they'll pull the blindfold over our eyes
and they'll fill our ears with static

They say that man is born to be free
And that's no different to you and to me
But did you ever think how it just might be
if you were born in someone else's skin

But music passed in the generation
In word and song a life goes on
Until the last has been and gone
There will always be a rebel song

To the boy who played the patriot game
With a fire in your heart and a steady aim
    Another Goliath to be slain
And every underdog shall have its day
And the mother who took up arms to fight
To the trade union leader who disappeared by night
To those who marched for their brother and their sister
    We shall overcome

But music passed in the generation
In word and song a life goes on
Until the last has been and gone
There will always be a rebel song

So stand up strong and sing your songs
    Until the last
    Has been and gone.

Just listened to this version on the train on the way to the game. Beautiful. Not ashamed to say I felt a tear in my eye at the verse reading out the hunger strikers names. Nothing but admiration for those 10 brave men.

One of my favourites. Great quality for a live recording.

    CELTIC SONG (CLASSIC)
Not so much a favourite, more a favorite memory. When I was a wean in the sixties my da had 1 rebel record, a LP called Ireland's 32.
And he would blast it out every Saturday alongside his brothers after they came in from the pub at half two. And usually after they'd been fighting the Huns from the orange halls on sandbank st. So as a wean I'd sit outside the living room while my mother stitched up there heads for the wounds they got while fighting (only * went to hospital in those days) and when the record finished I'd be shouted in to turn it over and be given a shilling, and sometimes 2 bob.
Soon I realised I could put the needle on half way on the LP so instead of waiting 45mins to earn a shilling I'd get it in 20mins. Depending on how many of my da's brothers and pals were up in could coin in about 10 bob for a wee Saturday morning shift.
So aye, Ireland's 32..... best rebel record ever.
