I was the exact same. I had to google it to find out where he was from. I was expecting him to be American as well.

A mined watching Blood Diamond for this first time, a blown away by it. Not by any acting performance but just by the film itself. Thought it was great.

The film itself was good aye, definitely.

Just find sometimes when watching a really cracking film, a good performance (imo) can make watching a good individual performance unenjoyable.

Thought Di Caprios best performance was arguably Shutter Island. Big fan of Dennis Lehane(author) and after reading the the book thought Di Caprio may have been miscast but he was excellent

One of the best improvised scenes in film. He had to get stitches in his hand after it. The part where he smears blood over Broomhilda's face wasn't in the script - adds a whole new level to the scene. Must have been pretty shocking for the actress who played her. :smiley-laughing002:

Edit: That bit's not in the video actually (I don't know why they'd cut it) but if you've seen the film, you'll know what I'm talking about.

He was also good in 'The Quick and the Dead', a western with Gene Hackman (great actor), Russell Crowe and Sharon Stone. Well worth a watch.

De Niro and Walken in The Deer Hunter were fantastic performances.

Vinnie Jones in "Gone in 60 seconds".

The part where he speaks at the end literally moved me to tears......

For recent performances I'd have to mention Patricia Arquette in Boyhood as well. Amazingly empathetic, genuine and identifiable.

    Hugh Jackman in Prisoners

Ray Liotta in some films, always get Casino, Goodfellas and that mixed up but hes good in whatever ones hes in or both.

Only ones I can really think of

Di Caprio and Day Lewis I think are good in numerous films but theres something weird about them where you always know it's them. They never fully sink into the background and you only see the character, would also say the same of Christian Bale who is good in most films but I always know its him.

Daniel Day Lewis single-handedly raised Gangs of New York from mediocrity.
