Think they're just putting their jobs at risk. There's more self service style things in fast food places and even apps now. Demanding £10 and hour in this type of job is a joke when there are more vital jobs on a lot less.

personally i think they are well within reason for asking for the wage - retail in any guise, Fast Food, Clothes, Currency Exchange among others are hideously under paid.

I remember working at Heathrow Aiport for a currency exhange company and I was on £12500 per annum, even if that is £15000 now, it's not enough to get by in life and is made worse if your trying to look after a family, May likes to say working is the best way out of poverty, not on wages like that it isn't.

And just because other jobs especially along the lines of care work which I've also done and actually found to be the most rewarding of any job I've ever done are equally paid as bad, I was on £8phr but never earned more than £80 a month because they would only book me in for 30 minute slots, does not disqualify these lot asking for £10phr.

Hospitality in general is just terrible pay for hard work and zero respect.

I honestly don't envy hospitality workers or other such customer front facing jobs.

It's hard slog and in it's no wonder those type of industries have such a high turnover rate.

Problem they face is it's not overly skilled work and there are plenty of people willing to do it. The next problem will be if they get the rise, then the employer/business passes it onto the customer, will the customers be happy to pay the increased price. Given most people are looking for a reduction in their outgoings already I'm not so sure.

I suppose with brexit that will see a reduction in people (seasonal workers/immigrants) willing to work for less than a tenner but that will also see a reduction in people prepared to use these services as often, due to the contraction of the economy in general. So we could see them getting a tenner but jobs lost, So what's better - less than a tenner but vacancies or a tenner but the employers being even more picky in who gets a job ..

In fairness did you see them wee Hun * two weeks ago kicking the window in on McDs Sauchiehall st. Went through and kicked the staff about. I’d say the late shifts are no joke for some of those kids. And they tend to be the more awkward type teen who lack confidence. Or the wee student type. They do work hard but can be exasperating at times.

The next time i see a scaff do a 12 hour shift will be the first time, 12 hour shift cabined up playing cards, drinking coffee and tea , sleeping on benches in cabins, the wee lassie probably puts in a harder day than you , the hardest part of your day is putting your belt on.

I do see how maybe if the hours aren’t there then I could see the case.

I was referring to the girl in the vid (I’ll try and find it) who was banging on about it being physically demanding.

She should have been out with me years ago at 3am in the morning in the middle of winter handballing cages of milk out the back of lorry on farms in the * rain and blowing gale for £8ph for 13-15 hour shifts then talk to me about what is physically demanding

She also mentioned about how they don’t have money for food and *, I’ve worked In hospitality before and there is always plenty of free food and drink to be had :giggle1:

Mate there’s a job in my place that entails lifting 77kg of ingredients every 4 mins, that’s before trying to run the * plant. Do I have to put up with * customers no, but my job is way more physically demanding than McDonalds ffs!

The labourers in my work just now are only on about £9.50 an hour, they work there * arses off though and the owner will promote them and give them training for better chances all paid for if you show commitment, working in Mcdonalds at 18 and protesting for £10 an hour :43:
