Jesus... the BBC pundits are like a bunch of sweetie wifies super-eager to create a controversy where none exists (chiefly because it makes their job easier - they have something to discuss!).

I hate this bullshit that ex-pros come out with about a player being 'entitled to go down'. No - you are not 'entitled to go down'. You 'go down' if the law of physics determines it be so... otherwise you've dived!

    * Shearer - claims the early incident was a dive and he's correct! On this occasion the attacker was presented with a part of the goalkeepers body ahead of him, he cleared-it, and then landed on his *. The second situation that they all claim was a stick-on pen was exactly the same... except this time the Chelsea player DELIBERATELY dragged his foot and DELIBERATELY made contact with the defender. Entitled to go down my *!!! He also cheated!

I have high hops for this VAR system - hopefully it will rid football of the downright dishonesty that plagues it almost every match.

I agree, none of them were penalties. Ref got it spot on.

Thought the Willian one was a standard pen now, although he played for it. See them given everywhere now..

He had some game though :56:

    Still hate VAR..

I was shattered and didn't wake up till just before the equaliser :eek1:

Then every decision went Norwich's way, which as you say were correct but it was so funny to watch Chelsea quoting passages from the Satanic Bible Jose left behind
    Bummer about the penelties though.
Oh aye that's right, Willian's penalty shout was a stonewaller.

You're absolutely right McGuire1 - we've come to accept that if a player attracts the movement of an opponent in the box, then subsequently makes deliberate physical contact with this opponent, and then deliberately falls over... then thats a pen.

Some even see it as a 'skill'.

For me though, when a player makes deliberate contact with an opponent, then its a foul. Why should this be any different when that contact is caused by an attacker deliberately making contact with a defender in the box? I know it can often be impossible to tell in real-time, but in slo-mo its usually very obvious. I understand why some are against the stop / start nature of video refereeing, but my hope is that VAR will bring about some change.

I actually agree with you. Saying it's cute, clever and a skill or whatever has encouraged what we have now. The thing is, I think VAR 9 time's out of 10 would've gave the Willian one. He doesn't move his leg towards the man which you see forcing contact, he just dangles it and waits for contact..

Quite a few year's ago now that would've been called a dive but I do think now that sort of playing for it is a penalty... as * as it may seem and I don't think VAR will stop the majority of those unless blatantly cheating or initiating contact like you see Vardy regularly do when running at pace he'll see a defender coming and stretch his leg out to win a penalty. Completely diving for me in those instances..

I've been watching a fair bit of Italian football and German and some of the decisions with VAR are startling when we can all see with pundits that they've got it spectacularly wrong..

Sanchez is a cracking player but he gives the ball away so regularly.
