Europa League 2018/2019.

The bonus is we hopefully shouldn’t take batterings in the EL but obviously far less money.

Regroup, get the defence sorted and some European experience for the likes of Eddy, Ajer and Bain. Hopefully get a good run and in pot 2 for the group draw.

 

The only way this will make up for that shambles of a CL campaign is if we get through the groups and pick up a shitload of coefficient points in the process.Fr this however we need a better defence than the current wet paper towel we have though.

 

wow no wonder everyone ignores the EL and plays reserve teams, why is the prize funds so *. there's no point in the tournament if they're not gonna make it worthwhile for the teams in it.

 

Just another reason that’s contributed to the CL becoming the stitch up it now is, they want to keep all the money amongst themselves whilst those not in the chosen leagues can fight over the scraps

 

I'll enjoy it when it comes around no doubt, but right now it's hard not to be * off by the embarrassing mismanagement of our great club. As mentioned, the CL is getting harder to get into every year and yet we could have built on a very promising team, qualified for the 3rd time in a row and begin to see ourselves as a Cl club in all ways - qualifying the majority of years.

It's maddening that the board sees our ambitions as occasional lucky qualification and then back to mediocrity in a season or two when in my opinion we could be a comfortable Cl group stage club. Support wise, history wise, even finances wise we are surely in the top 6 clubs in the qualifying route. While we have Brendan Rodgers, stockpiled money and high exposure for the club we should be doing enough to secure that every season. As Brendan says, we don't need an overhaul, just a few quality additions to keep things fresh and replace lost players. Our fee on Edouard is already covered so we have spent nothing essentially. It just makes no sense, what the * is going on behind the scenes?

Anyway, I realise this is meant to be a positivity thread - if we can get a few players in, the board will go a bit of the way to regaining trust with the fans (although this is an old wound at this point so they are really pushing their luck here). But IF we strengthen just a bit (CB, RB, Armstrong replacement, Arzani) I can see us doing well in the Europa. Going forward with a fit Dembele and Edouard we can do damage for sure.

 

it will be nice going into a group with the possibility of winning it, but that all depends on who we sign before the deadline.

 

You also get Co-efficient money, £70k per place up the 10 year rankings out all the teams in it, we will probably be in the top 20 so we should be due £2.1million+ and TV money - TV Money might be about £4.5million, if we are the only team that get there from Scotland then we get all of it, if Hibs/huns get there we share it. 60-40 to us or 40-30-30 to us if its 3 teams.

So if we are the only Scottish team there then we could expect to get £9.4million before we play a match. We have already made £1million from the CL qualifying bonus money. We've probably already brought in £2.2million from the Rosenborg and AEK games and can probably expect £800k+ for the Suduva, maybe £100k in TV money for some qualifiers.

If we get to the Groups and get about 7 points then our European season will have probably brought in about £14.5-16million, depending on wether another Scottish team qualify or not - not too bad. Last season it was about £36million with CL and then reaching the EL Last 32.

So we'll lose out on £20million compared to last season. Although if we had qualified this season we'd have probably got about £46million if we repeated what we did last season.

Also the second time I've see Atalanta mentioned tonight. * hope not, we'd be out on our arses to any serie A side.

 

I used to get some pleasure knowing that the club were making money, securing our future etc.

But now...not really. Doesn't really matter what money we make if we rarely invest.

 

Half empty European nights under the disco lights. Thursdays never looked so good.

 

The board can get * if they think I’m paying whatever ridiculous price they charge for the groups if they don’t invest in a few quality players

 

What gives you more points for the coefficient - qualifying for CL group stages and being pamped out, or progressing from Europa league?

 

Really? *! I was told that when the draw was done, and ive been telling anyone that ever since. Gonna need to go check it now, because there's clearly some confusion.

Could not give a flying * about the EL now, we should play a second team in it and concentrate on winning the league first.

We need to make sure that the league is won first for the qualifying of the champions league next season.

 

So is a Europa win worth more than a CL defeat?

 

Get there first and then look forward to it..

Get a couple of additions in now and bleed them in in the EL this season..

The cash in the CL is very important but the absolute spankings we’ve had doesn’t do anyone any good...

I’m looking forward to winnable games and hopefully some progression, but this will only be achieved with a CB, RB and CM being brought in ..NOW!

 

There's actually some strong teams in the europa, Celtic fans acting like its beneath us have a brass neck moaning about English fans looking down on the spfl.
