Same, think there's no real whipping boy in the squad at the minute, especially with Bitton playing so well, so the needless anger had to turn somewhere. Sviatchenko not the best player in the world and might be leaving to get regular first team football? HE'S A * * * THEN

He went from being regarded by most as our best centre back to being a dud within a month (Hogmanay to late January). Many seem to think he wanted a move when there was talk as such in January but nothing concrete.

It's kind of like the Armstrong situation. The press give stories full of holes and unknowns and a large number in our support jump in and fill in the blanks in a ridiculously poisonous way. These conclusions then become "fact" and before you know it, a large portion of the fan base has turned on a player. The fact is, very few (and none on here) really know the full story.

For what it's worth, I think he's suffered from a lack of confidence ever since Ibrox on Hogmanay. If we have the chance to get rid of him for a decent price while bringing in a better replacement who would slot into the starting eleven next to Jozo then I'm all for it. I don't see Rivaldo being that guy in the immediate future though (I'd like to be wrong).

Can someone link me to proof that he deserves this light hatred?

Few other articles regarding it but this one has fan opinions too. Didn't want to quote the S*n's article on it.

EDIT - Not saying this is proof to hate him, but around this time I think he made comments which didn't show the usual 'want back in the team will do all I can' was a bit more angst to what he said. Can't find actual quote.

Actually, even wih Rivaldo coming in, I would still like to see us bring in another defender with European experience. It may take Erik's sale to make that happen. But I want a solid new defender to partner Jozo rather than another experiment!

Every player has his price but I think it's too soon to write him off so I vote 'keep' unless he's homesick/bored/other and definitely doesn't want to be here.

He's a good player - physical and gets stuck in, presence, fairly quick, good in the air (albeit fairly small for a CB), decent enough at playing out from the back.

His only real weakness on the pitch is that he can be a bit reckless in the challenge but there have been plenty of instances where his determination to win the ball has been an asset to us. I think his habit of drawing attention from the referee is probably seen as problematic tactically as it could force us to make a substitution but his physicality can be an asset as much as a hindrance.

Erik is a 'good guy' and a decent-enough player by SPL standards; but not good enough for the next level up (i.e. beyond the qualifiers)
So if we get decent enough money - and actually what is more important is that BR sees him as surplus to the squad (which will be the case if he lets him go) then I would say 'thanks for the brief memories and wish you luck!'

Think Brendan was waiting for the Rivaldo deal before selling him which makes sense. Still remember him for that bullet header v Sevco (Even though we lost on pens) and was good when he first joined, but hasn't massively improved and is error prone.

Best of luck to the guy if he goes I'm a little bit gutted it never worked out.

Boyata and Jozo are both much better options though when all fit.

His attitude since he's been dropped has been deplorable. Complete steop, his interviews and his agent hasn't helped anyway. I do not care for a petted lip in a Celtic strip.

I've not seen anything to justify the anger directed at him.
