And a remembrance of 1916 isn't about honouring the dead? Did they not fight for their freedom and the freedom of the Irish people? And to build a home based on civil liberty that all it's exiled children could return to? You're talking absolute drivel

Because the current board are desperate to just fit in and try to erode everything that makes Celtic different to all the Brit clubs.

So where do you stand on Churchills promise to Irishmen joining the war effort. Where they were guaranteed freedom of the 32 counties in exchange for their participation in the war?

Of course they did. But we are still part of the UK and you know fine well that for Celtic to do anything regarding 1916 would be a highly contentious political move and Celtic is not about politics.

There's events all across the globe including several in the UK, the only people that'd actually give a * are the Huns and the Daily Record

Aye the club are allegedly going to release a special edition shirt that will have a symbolic design called a LilyPop on the chest :smiley-laughing002:

So what if Celtic is in the UK? So you think Celtic should side with the British establishment or something because of this? And turn it's back on it's founding fathers to seem progressive? How would it be a highly contentious political move if everyone in the club would support it? You care what others outside the club think? Will London not give us a pat on the head? How is remembering the dead of 1916 political and the dead of WW 1 and 2 not? You keep saying it's because British soldiers died for freedom, but so did the volunteers. It's a complete and utter contradiction.

And for the record Celtic has alot more to do with Irish nationalism than it does with British nationalism. The club was build on Irish nationalism and it's ideals

I understand why they knocked that offer back but in hindsight was it the correct decision ?

Btw I am not some great supporter of the poppy, I just don`t see it as some huge political statement that is worth getting wound up about.

The poppy might have been originally supposed to be about the two world wars but It's clearly not that anymore it symbiosis all wars

It doesn't commemorate those who were massacred in Aden, in Amritsar, in Kenya or the famine victims in Ireland and Bengal. It most certainly does not represent any of those who fought the British be they Argentinian or Irish.

Mate they didn't knock that offer back. They unfortunately took that offer up and were double crossed.
