I'd say you were right if it hadn't been belted out before..

In fact our last cup visit we smashed them it was belted out..

Not sure how much malice was in it tbh mate, but it was certainly a bit thoughtless..

Was McCanns Da involved in football at all? I guess it was maybe just a gesture from Dundee to hold a minutes silence to support their manager but never seen that before, for the death of a relative.. put him on the spot a bit imo, he looked uncomfortable.

I understand your argument regarding * and Orangeman but I'm not totally convinced even though I stopped shouting it when I was about 11 as I went to a lot more games when I was younger.
What confuses your reasoning is when I was at the Ajax game when Virgil bossed the game there were a small group of fans behind me chanting Dirty Orange *. It didn't really bother me as they were well bevvied but I just found it a little distasteful, almost reducing ourselves to the level of Ajax hooligans. So, you couldn't say that was sectarian because I doubt Holland is a mono theistic culture. I'm sure it stems from William of Orange.
I love rebel songs, I was brought up on them but my mates growing up and still today are mixed. I think rebel songs are just as valid as the songs black slaves sang to guide escapees along certain routes, disguised as gospel music Wade In The Water was sang in churches so slaves would know they'd find respite with abolishonists if they followed the river.
I definitely think calling someone a black * is way beyond * or Orangemen. You can't choose what colour you are.
Rebel songs are being twisted by the media into sectarian songs but they're songs about a country being invaded and its citizens reduced to peasants, even being robbed of their language and I think the Orange Order had a lot to do with the treatment of Catholics in the North, it's a 100% sectarian establishment.
So even though I love the Rebs I don't shout Dirty Orange * cause I think it makes me become what they say we are, Sectarians.
You just have to see how many cases have been thrown out of court during OBAF trials.

I did think we could have chosen one game not to sing cheer up but I'm not an away fan, it is possible there was no malice in it at all and I'll never judge our away support especially as I think they are one of the best in the world.

Mate I agree with essence of your post.. not sure what you mean about my reasoning tho and the Ajax game..

But calling someone an Orange * has nothing to do with Rebel Songs.. and I guess none of it has anything to do with the thread.

PM me if you want to discuss further..

Wait a minute, I just got totally clamped and all I asked was * is a warmer :43:

Then Jimmy Bell appeared totally randomly and I got sucked into a terrible tangent rambling forever and ever :blahblah1

That is a riddy sized post. Would anyone mind if I deleted it before I get called a warmer?

    Maybe it goes something like....

Jimmy got run over by a Tesco van.
On his way to the lodge one Friday evening.

    Or maybe not.

Not unless it's just a Cheer Up..

Truth is we have such a diverse songbook we don't need to resort to petty name calling to get our point across..

If we look at Grace for example it's both beautiful and powerful at the same time.. and also illustrates perfectly the difference between our support and their hate filled culture..

You make a couple of good points here... I still think that it wasn't very clever but I get what you mean in this post.

The Jimmy Bell song goes something like, "he's a * an orange * his name is Jimmy Bell, I hope he dies, I hope he dies". First heard it in Munich. Heard it many times since.

By forever and ever I meant the song with the line, "We'll never be mastered by no orange *".

Are you saying that orange in this context isn't about protestants? I must have missed the history of conflict between some element of the celtic support and people with fake tans.

So if the Orange Order were full of Catholics the Irish would have welcomed them?
"We're really looking forward to being mastered by these lovely *?"
