I like my job. It's different every day. Money could be better but very little hassle.

I * absolutely despise my job with a furious anger, and an unadulterated passion!

On the plus side though, could be potentially getting told to shove it up their * in the next cupla weeks :party048::party048::party048::party048:

After a decade in the business, i now care not for the company, and working on my exit strategy. Crap management, obnoxious, hireling, apple-polishing colleagues, and increased unsustainable workload has truely turned me into a Tyler Durden of sorts.

Not going to pretend I skip to work in the morning, if I wasn't getting paid I wouldn't be there, but I think on the whole yes I enjoy my job. Some days are better than others obviously.

I was under the impression you loved your job for some reason.

Been thinking about my future career lately and wether I should look to move into something entirely different. Even the folk earning 7-figures a year in the office seem pretty miserable which doesn't really bode well for a career here. The place is filled with charlatans too, people that aren't good are their job or well qualified, but have gotten where they are through who they know or successfully schmoozing their way up the corporate pole. There are very few people in a company of about 700/800 that would genuinely be missed if they left, most (myself included) could be replaced exceptionally quickly. Actually, they get recruitment wrong again and again so maybe that's not the case.

In contrast, my girlfriends a primary teacher and despite facing some genuinely tough situations like kids from abusive backgrounds etc, gets to make a tangible difference in people's lives every day. She gets told how awesome she is or how much she means to one of the kids on a weekly basis ffs, whereas I face some * that spends half their day at Harvey Nichols having a go at me for eating too many bananas from the fruit box.

I used to do a job I really liked but Im a lot more desk based now.

I can relate to your post. I come from a background where people made actual tangible things with a real value. We are very far removed from that world where we are very well looked after but utterly disposable at the same time. And at the end of the day there is no real value to your job at all.

That said, I did choose it. Because being a struggling academic going from contract to contract didnt appeal to me. So I cant complain - it is just a silly system we live in where adding no value is worth a lot more than adding lots of value.

Over the years, I've probably had 3 jobs that I've loved but something has always gone wrong.

    1) I had a driving job (1991-94), which was great. Delivering mainly around Liverpool and Manchester area 3 days a week, with a long trip to the North East and another to the South West ........... But unfortunately the company went bust.

    2) I had a job in a factory (1997-99) which I loved. As a Quality Controller, it was interesting, varied and I was pretty much my own boss. Unfortunately the site closed, and I was offered relocation to Northern Ireland or redundancy.

    3) Finally, I worked in a cash office (2004-05), which suited my organised (slightly OCD) habits. However I was offered a promotion to manage another department, and although I didn't fancy the job, it was a 25% pay increase (which with a wife and child I couldn't refuse).

Pretty much every other job I've had, I've either hated or been able to tolerate it (my current one falls into the latter category).

If my alarm didn't go off at 7 in the morning I'd be happy enough.

Started at the very bottom rung of the business 10 years ago and now I've only a Director to answer to.
