Maybe. He managed it once or twice in his career, though. And that was in a Hibs team that was set up for him to do whatever he wanted.

He was a quality finisher on either foot from anywhere within 20-25 yards, but that was his only real talent. If he worked harder and was more athletic, he'd be like a two-footed Griffiths.

Exactly my point mate. He had the talent but not the attitude, professionalism or the drive to make it.

Aye, the goals he scored at Hibs a lot of them were like the belters Henry scored for Arsenal curling shots into the net from 20 and 30 yards from angles etc it was also hard to tell if he was left or right footed. When you see how good players like Stokes, McDonald, Commons have been for us and compare them to Riordan then he should have been a couple of levels above them at worst.

If he had the proper attitude, he could have been a Naka, who scored more goals. Of course, he didny, so I'm just talking *.

You've now mentioned both Henrik Larsson and Shunsuke Nakamura in a Derek Riordan thread.

I'm worried about you, Dev :84:

Would say Maloney is the best naturally talented player we (Scotland) have produced, in my time.

Got to give it to him for his longevity and the fact he's done it at all levels, from EPL to SPL.

Riordan was a really talented player though. Good with both feet, could score any type of goal, free kicks etc.

Typical Scottish footballer mentality. Seen it happen so many times, even at youth level, that it's not even surprising anymore.

Callum McGregor is the most natural talent to come through the ranks in a very long time. A cultured player who creates, moves, opens space, drives forward. The continental style that you’d love to see all the kids having. Maloney was talented and could hit a free kick but Cal is more driven a different football brain but a more all rounded player. It’s no surprise Rodgers rates him so highly. Deila started that run of confidence off for our bhoy. Riordion was a waste of a brain cell. The talent he had and just wanted to be big time Charlie.

Watched the interview with him. The guy can barely remember his own name.

He didn't really open up much. Doesn't seem like he has much self awareness.

No surprise there, seen an interview with him a few years ago and he was blaming everycunt else for how his career panned out.
