Is it just me who struggles to understand why some derbies exist. Like, Liverpool - Everton, what’s the * difference with their fans? There all scousers, they’re basically the same thing. Why’d they hate each other?

Is this just me, growing up a Celtic fan and hating Huns it’s not just football, it’s 2 completely seperate cultures that clash.

What feeds into it for other fans? I can understand United/Liverpool because that’s the culture thing again, Mancs and Scousers tend to dislike each other and that feeds into it.

Rambling here cos am a bit mwi but am I making sense :56:

Everything seems diluted and even Henrik alluded to this earlier..

It's hard to have that real hatred in a rivalry as intensely because for most derbies it's just football related, success, local bragging rights etc but I don't think it's the same..

English derbies aren't even real derbies, when 'rival' fans have half and half scarfs it pours cold water over it.
You wouldn't see a Dundee-Dundee United half and half scarf.

I think you are clutching at straws calling Liverpool v Everton a derby.

It's a glorified friendly at best.

They * down south seem to think it is. I don’t get what makes them seem to think so, cept the fact they are geographically close.

Aye, what feeds that hatred when it’s literally only a game of football for them?

The way you grow up i suppose..

If you follow your old man's side then I assume the hatred and rivalry comes naturally..

It's actually quite a difficult 1 to answer. When I first read it i thought it would end an easy one but I haven't a scooby :56:

Bit out of most of our own viewpoints cos Celtic and they * has a whole load of other * thrown in outwith football that feeds it.

There are other derbies that are more than hust the football - Barca/Madrid, Boca/River Plate etc. I get them. It’s the ones that it’s just the football, what feeds it?

I've watched more * Sundays than super Sundays on sky.
Tbf they market their game right, there would be no countries in the world that would go out their way to not allow one club to win the league against their rivals.

Some people in here refuse to call our games with Rangers a derby, claiming that the Partick game is now the derby. That’s completely geographical, I’m never felt anything towards a Partick fan. It’s also a bam up, but nobody will admit that.

I don’t think a derby has to revolve around culture and hatred.

It’s just bragging rights most of the time and being able to say you’re the best team in that city at that time.

Not all city’s have them, but some do and some fans live for that game and get more passionate for it.

    * knows mate, whether it’s in here or on Twitter you see those petty comments from people. There’s always a few. I’ll look out for them in the next two weeks :giggle1: even Sky and BT call the Partick game a Glasgow derby.
