See what you mean there. Personally i think that requires a system change more than player changes. Were not going to be able to afford ready made ball playing centre backs that can consistently bring the ball out from the back like that and be solid defensively.
The same can certainly be said for replacing Gordon with a better keeper on the ball.

That’s a bit defeatist. We’ve brought in Victor Wanyama*, Virgil van Dijk, Jason Denayer, Erik Sviatchenko, Jozo Šimunović and Kristoffer Ajer in recent years - all good defenders and good football players to varying degrees. No one’s asking for the next Franz Beckenbauer.

*He was brought in as a centre-half if I remember correctly.

I believe whatever system we play our defenders should be able to pass with accuracy.. it’s so important in the modern game..

Changing system to be more effective in Europe is a whole different debate and a valid one.

Even the young VVD and victor we signed would be exposed in Europe in this system. Ive no doubt both of them would improve our fortunes in Europe somewhat. But as i said to you a couple days ago the biggest improvements we can make will be in systemic and tactical changes.

Put it this way if the reported fee is correct would you all take £5.25m or €6m euros for Boyata who will probably miss most of July anyway??? I would

taking 6 or 7m for him it will cost us that to replace him, Not to mention maybe another centre half , wont be happening.
He's good enough for Lazio but we are debating about him.

It will be happening if he doesn't sign a new deal! No chance Celtic will let him walk for free when there is cash possibly coming to the table, Armstrong is the case in hand as things stand.

During this world cup there has been quite a number of instances, maybe even a majority, where the team with less possession wins.

Possession is an indicator of superiority when it comes naturally. Not when teams keep passing to the side and back to artificially increase that number instead of trying to score.

This tiki taka is an increasingly worn out and outdated strategy and in fact our team was one of the first to prove it isnt unbeatable. By now, even the Kilmarnocks of the world know how to cope with it, as this world cup shows

Boyata is our most prized possession since Larsson. 10 times the player Virgil Van Dijk will ever be. Fast, hard tackling and passing with flair and ease and style. He has single handed won us a double treble. We can’t afford to lose him and if we do it would take some serious money.

    Please translate in Italian Lazio.:50:

8m would be a reasonable fee.

Just watched highlights of the 3-2 game at the huns dump. He is such a liability at times :giggle2:

Not sure if I've picked you up correctly or not but you're not suggesting if he doesn't have a specific name that his point is discredited?

I hadn't heard of Wanyama, Van Dijk, Ntcham, Edouard, Izzaguire, Ki etc. etc. etc. that didn't mean they were poor players, as proved once they were in the hoops.

If Congerton can't find a better centre back than Boyata for £6-7 million then we should ask him for his resignation.

Spot on. Would go as far as being able to replace him for £3-4m. He's a disaster at times.

I’m by no means a fan but after his mistake at Ibrox he was clearly much better.. just kept it simple.. domestically he’s fine..

I agree that he did screw the nut in the domestic games after that but he had more than one mistake that day. He had a fresh air swipe at a ball that gave Morelos a 1v1 that he then subsequently missed and also got bullied by Morelos at the near post for their 2nd goal.

If he keeps it simple he is an asset to us but it seems complacency creeping in with him is always inevitable. If we are genuinely being offered anywhere near those reported fees then we would be absolutely mental to turn it down. There's a good centre back in there but with Brendan favouring a ball playing centre-back who can pass, we're never going to be far away from the next clanger.
