Somewhat leading on to my potentially unpopular opinion...

Modern popular music with the exception of some of the very best rap music is culturally irrelevant and in 100 years time very few people will know or case about today's biggest artists.

Ahhh...happy memories...was sitting in a hotel in Benidorm watching this with a fellow tim i met from EK and pretty much a half Spanish/Engerlund split for the rest of the audience. Some wee naff turned round to us * raging and said 'even you must have seen that was a mile over'.........just shrugged my shoulders and told him i couldn't possibly commit either way.....he was * raging as was my missus when i told her as she thought i was gonna start a riot!!

Certainly agree that the majority will be remembered by a few. Any brilliant tracks will always hang around and that’s what gives music lovers their passion. But a lot of stuff that is downloads and throw away chart music will be cast to the back of memory banks. Everyone used to be able to keep up with new releases. Not anymore.

I think music is no longer at the centre of cultural change. I think rock and roll music used to be the sole outlet for kids who wanted a voice or to become a star. Now there are much easier outlets than learning to play a guitar. As you say, an Ed Sheeran or Adele song may remain a wedding favourite for the next 100 years but people in the future wont reflect on current popular music in the same way we do when we look at music from the 50s-90s.

The advancement in computer technology at this time, and the musical pioneers that have brought it forward as a genuine musical aid?

This time here will be viewed as one of the biggest changes in musical history and will be studied as such.

Is this going on outside of what you would consider 'popular music', and what cultural influence does it have? Genuine questions as I appreciate I am behind the curve when it comes to new music.

This is more towards how music is produced today. The computer is one of the biggest things to ever happen to music, those who pioneered early techniques will definitely be studied by those who are into music history.

In 100 years I’d be very surprised if the majority of tunes produced are with live instruments, this is literally the beginning of a musical revolution within the last 20 years or so.

For better or for worse, people can not like it but it’s importance won’t be understated in 100 years or so. iT’ll fascinate the * out of people.

When I think of electronic music I think of Kraftwerk, Visage, etc. Production has become much easier due to technology but it doesn't feel like it has influenced the sound of popular music all that much. Over the last five years for example, how many top albums or singles couldnt have been made 20 years ago? From a purely production perspective you make a really good point but I dont see any cultural impact in the same way as you seen in previous periods of new instrumentation or technology.

There’s something about seeing England go out that’s always beautiful, no matter how often it happens, but it’s made even better on holiday, like most things.

Sun, sea, sand, sangria and delicious English tears. It definitely compensates for Scotland never being there.

I was in Zante during the 2006 World Cup with about 50 other Scots, just crashing English pubs and taking over :giggle1:
Seeing Larsson score the equaliser against them in the 90th minute was beautiful.

honestly, it was the dream scenario mate....sitting there when Lampard fires that ''in'' :56: and then the * * asks my opinion....and then the utter dejection surrounding me whilst i am drinking it up.....ohh and the hotel staff pretending to feel their pain (they've got tips to get) but secretly loving it like the Spanish locals.

It was Karma as i've seen the other side.....landed in Corfu the night they beat Argentina in 2002 and well that's enough of that story!!

I hate this weather. It's too hot. I like wearing sundresses and shorts on holiday but I feel like a * wearing them here. It's too warm to sleep. Roll on winter and the dark nights.
